About the RoleIntroduction – the ‘why’
Oxford University Press (OUP) is looking for a Senior Campaign Executive – Customer Data to join its Academic Marketing Operations team. This is an exciting opportunity for a marketing professional with experience in customer data, audience segmentation, and campaign targeting to take ownership of a specialist area that is critical to campaign success.
In this role, you will act as the customer data expert within the Campaigns team, helping to transform marketing performance through effective targeting and segmentation. You will work closely with Campaign Managers, the Data & Analytics team, and other stakeholders to drive best practices, improve audience strategies, and support the ongoing evolution of OUP’s marketing campaigns. The position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in marketing technologies, data-driven decision-making, stakeholder management, and campaign optimisation in a global publishing environment.
Opportunity – the ‘what’
As the Senior Campaign Executive – Customer Data, you will lead customer data, segmentation, and targeting activities for the Campaigns team while supporting continuous improvement in marketing effectiveness and campaign transformation.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading customer data activities for the Campaigns team
- Acting as the primary point of contact for customer data and audience criteria within the Campaigns team.
- Escalating data requirements and issues to the Data & Analytics team where required.
- Driving best practice documentation and training
- Creating and maintaining segmentation documentation and onboarding plans for new team members.
- Developing training materials and user guides, including guidance on personalisation.
- Conducting quarterly data segmentation refresher sessions for the Campaigns team.
Managing audience targeting
- Creating predefined audience filters for recurring business-as-usual campaigns.
- Identifying and referring additional development requirements to the Data & Analytics team.
Supporting customer data for automated campaigns
- Assisting the Data & Analytics team with maintaining and optimising established automation campaigns where required.
Leading campaign-related data transfer activities
- Acting as the Campaigns team lead for data transfer processes in line with GDPR protocols, including work associated with The Big Marker.
- Liaising with the Data & Analytics team as necessary.
- Providing training and guidance to Campaigns team members on data transfer processes and compliance requirements.
Supporting continuous improvement and campaign transformation
- Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement new approaches to data usage and audience segmentation.
- Supporting broader marketing transformation initiatives by improving campaign targeting and effectiveness.
The role will have a significant impact on campaign performance by ensuring high-quality audience targeting, strong data governance, effective training across the Campaigns team, and the successful adoption of best practices in customer segmentation and marketing data management.
Success in this roleYou will succeed by:
- Demonstrating strong knowledge of key systems used for data and segmentation activities, including OCM and Mastervision.
- Consistently meeting service level agreements (SLAs) for data and segmentation tasks within the campaign management process.
- Successfully coaching and developing team members to maintain current knowledge of OCM, Mastervision, GDPR requirements, and data transfer protocols.
- Building strong stakeholder relationships and supporting improvements in campaign targeting in alignment with best practices established by the Data & Analytics team and MSSO.
About YouEssential Criteria
- Graduate with 1–3 years of experience in Marketing (Direct, Web, or Online Marketing).
- Previous experience working with customer data and campaign segmentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Project.
- Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, dependability, urgency, and results orientation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to support larger projects.
- Knowledge of publishing.
- Knowledge of online marketing.
