Job Title: Preventive Maintenance Technician (PM Tech)

Reports To: Farm Shop Manager

Location: Clewiston, FL

Position Type: Full-Time | Onsite | Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance and servicing of agricultural equipment to ensure reliable performance and minimize downtime. This role focuses on scheduled preventative care, supporting overall farm productivity and equipment longevity.

Requirements:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine maintenance on farm equipment, including:
  • Oil and filter changes (engine, hydraulic, fuel, air)
  • Lubrication and greasing of moving parts.
  • Service and inspect:
  • Tractors, harvesters, and field equipment
  • Irrigation pumps and power units
  • Farm trucks, trailers, and utility vehicles.
  • Check and maintain fluid levels (oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, DEF)
  • Inspect belts, hoses, tires, batteries, and lights.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues before failure occurs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs.
  • Assist mechanics with basic repairs when needed.
  • Keep work area, tools, and service truck clean and organized.
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in equipment maintenance, agriculture, or diesel service (preferred but not required).
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of diesel engines and equipment systems.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow maintenance schedules.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • Experience with agricultural equipment (John Deere, Case IH, Ford trucks, etc.).
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems and pumps.
  • Experience using maintenance tracking systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a combination of maintenance shop, equipment yard, and outdoor agricultural field environments.
  • Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, rain, direct sunlight, and changing seasonal temperatures.
  • Regular exposure to dust, dirt, mud, grease, oils, fuel, hydraulic fluids, cleaning solvents, and other maintenance-related materials.
  • Exposure to loud noise from diesel engines, heavy equipment, power tools, and farm machinery; hearing protection may be required.
  • Work around moving mechanical equipment, tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, trailers, and other agricultural machinery.
  • May be required to work in confined or awkward spaces while servicing equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and other required safety equipment.
  • Must adhere to all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and equipment maintenance protocols.
  • Flexible schedule may be required during peak planting, harvesting, and other seasonal operations, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work underneath or around agricultural equipment.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, equipment, and replacement parts weighing up to 50 pounds independently; heavier items may require team lifting or mechanical assistance.
  • Ability to climb ladders, steps, and onto agricultural equipment to perform inspections and maintenance.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance instruments.
  • Ability to reach above shoulder level and work in awkward positions during equipment servicing and repairs.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to inspect equipment, identify wear or damage, read gauges, service manuals, and maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to distinguish sounds associated with equipment operation to identify potential mechanical issues.
  • Must possess the stamina and endurance to perform physically demanding work in outdoor agricultural environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles, service trucks, and farm equipment as required.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
