About the Position
As the Director of Court Sports, you will oversee the daily operations of the Club's tennis, pickleball, and bocce programs. You'll be responsible for instruction, programming, leagues, tournaments, special events, member engagement, and the overall court sports experience. Working closely with Club leadership, you'll help foster a welcoming, active community while continuing to grow participation and deliver exceptional service to our members.

Job purpose
To lead and oversee the daily operations, programming, instruction, and maintenance of the Club's tennis, pickleball, and bocce facilities while fostering exceptional member experience and promoting participation in court sports for Verandah Golf Club.
Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of the tennis, pickleball, and bocce programs.
- Protects assets of The Club.
- Manage employee performance for all tennis, pickleball, and bocce-related positions to ensure standards of performance are met.
- Manage controllable costs to achieve desired (profitable) results.
- Work as a team player with all managers to contribute to the overall success of The Club.
- Maintain accurate records and collecting fees. Also maintain accurate records of collections due for racquet stringing and for tennis lessons.
- Assist in preparing annual court sports program budgets and periodic budget revisions when requested by management of The Club. Comply with final approved budget and report variances/compliance.
- Establish, direct, and maintain a reasonable and efficient system for all court reservations and usage.
- Assist in the establishment, promotion, and operation of competitive programs within the membership such as leagues, club tournaments, and ladder competition and encourage member participation in such activities.
- Organize and supervise tennis, pickleball, and bocce functions for members and guests including round robins, clinics, and social activities and encourage member participation in such activities.
- Provide group lessons and private lessons to members and their guests within the framework of time which does not restrict other duties. Also provide coaching to club sponsored teams.
- Publicize all Tennis events on the bulletin board, in the newsletter, and in other news media when appropriate.
- Obtain and maintain the Club's Membership and active participation in Lee County Tennis Leagues and other area associations keeping the Club's Membership advised of their activities, tournaments, etc.
- Supervise and assist in all daily maintenance (brush, line, water, roll, blow, etc.) on all courts as required to assure proper playing conditions in a timely manner.
- Supervise and assist in general maintenance and cleaning in all areas of the tennis, pickleball, and bocce facilities, including sweeping, blowing, mowing, trimming, raking, empty trash, etc.
- Plan and schedule, with approval of Management, major repairs and maintenance with minimum interruption of court usage.
- In conjunction with the Staff, maintain the Tennis office in clean condition and a presentable manner at all times.
- Hire, train and supervise all pros for lessons/clinics, as well as any other positions relating to court sports.
- Supervise and order any equipment needed for the court sports while following your yearly budget.
- Provide professional advice on proper selection and care of equipment.
- Arbitrate any court or Member disputes when applicable.
- May officiate tournament play.
- Communicate on regular basis with the Club's General Manger.
- Monitor and police courts daily making sure only Members and their Guests have access.
- Monitor the court reservation system and ensure a smooth and even flow of players on and off the courts with fair access to playing time for all members.
- Enforce reasonable dress code policies in a firm but diplomatic way. Instruct players and bystanders on proper tennis etiquette on the courts and in the court areas.
- Provide introductions, arrange matches, and fill in as a player.
- Establish goals and new programs to increase the use and benefit of all court sport facilities for the Members.
- Promote the Club and its amenities to potential Members.
- Maintain an attractive, up to date bulletin board keeping Members advised of upcoming events, league standings, inner club competition etc.
- Perform administrative support duties, including email correspondence, invoice review, event and clinic coordination, registration setup, and marketing collaboration.
- Enforce fitness and court sports center policies (Rules & Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures) with professionalism.
- Address member issues promptly and forward member complaints to the General Manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Three to five years related experience as a head tennis, pickleball professional/instruction; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of Har-Tru clay court maintenance, including grooming, watering, rolling, lining, and general upkeep.
- USPTA Certified
- IPTPA Certified (or similar certification)
- CPR/AED Certified
- Passionate and knowledgeable about the tennis, pickleball, and bocce club industry
- Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter with excellent people skills
- Skilled in computerized spreadsheets, inventory, POS, and online booking software for courts and lessons.
Working conditions
- Work is both indoors and outdoors. Some lifting required, twisting, bending, sitting, standing, running, proficient in the games and maintenance of tennis, pickleball, and bocce.
