Kitsap Humane Society (KHS), a highly progressive open-admission animal welfare organization located in Silverdale, Washington is looking to engage additional Licensed Veterinary Technician relief support for our team. We are open to individuals seeking full or part-time employment. In addition to practicing shelter medicine and surgery, we are excited to have opened our low-income community clinic this past year. We partner with veterinary clinics across the region who have identified families in crisis in order to provide urgently needed medical and surgical care in our new, 4,600sf veterinary hospital. We are looking for a conscientious, progressive, team-oriented technician to provide support for our veterinarians in order to provide outstanding medical and surgical care for the animals under our care. Job Purpose and Summary
KHS’s LVT will work in collaboration with the Veterinary Operations Manager, veterinarians, staff and volunteers to provide high quality shelter medicine, surgery, treatment and care for KHS shelter animals and community clinic patients and clients. Technician responsibilities will include all aspects of surgery and recovery, examinations of patients, caregiver education, medical treatments, laboratory work and radiography. Our LVT must be efficient at time management and able to thrive in a high volume, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Requirements
• An interest in and willingness to support the mission, vision, and philosophy of KHS
• Previous experience or specific training/interest in HQHVSN and/or shelter medicine preferred.
• Surgical preparation, anesthetic induction, patient monitoring and recovery
• Proficiency in venipuncture, specimen collection and in house laboratory procedures
• Confidence in performing basic physical exams and working directly with caregivers
• Ability to triage patients based on medical and surgical needs
• Must present a good appearance and have the ability to deal cheerfully and tactfully with the public, staff and volunteers with a consistent positive mental attitude
• Must be skilled and able to handle conflict resolution
• Meticulous and methodical attention to record keeping and reporting
• Lift 50 lbs or more
Requirements:Key Tasks and Responsibilities (but not limited to)
• Surgical duties to include anesthetic induction, surgical prep, monitoring and recovery
• Community Clinic duties to include direct client/patient care, performing diagnostics and treatments
• Shelter Medicine duties to include preliminary examinations of shelter and foster animals requiring medical care, performing diagnostics and treatments, as well as assisting the DVMs with triaging animals requiring veterinary care and implementation of treatment protocols for common diseases
• Direct interaction with caregivers, adopters and foster parents includes history taking and initial exams, education on medical conditions and instructions for medication and follow up care.
