Job Description
Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to support our manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.
The Human Resources Generalist serves as the senior on-site HR resource for the facility and partners closely with employees, supervisors, plant leadership, and the corporate HR team. This position supports the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, HR administration, compliance, training, workers’ compensation, and Environmental, Health & Safety activities.
This is a hands-on manufacturing HR position that requires regular presence on the production floor and direct interaction with hourly employees and front-line supervisors. The Human Resources Generalist will also provide day-to-day guidance and support to the Human Resources & EHS Coordinator.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Serve as the primary on-site HR resource for employees and front-line supervisors
- Provide guidance regarding company policies, attendance, performance expectations, coaching, corrective action, and employee concerns
- Support employee-relations reviews, investigations, fact gathering, and documentation
- Escalate significant employee-relations, legal, compliance, or workplace concerns to the HR Director as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure employee matters are documented accurately and consistently
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the manufacturing facility
- Support employees and supervisors across multiple shifts as business needs require
Recruiting, Onboarding & Workforce Planning
- Support recruiting, interviewing, selection, and hiring for hourly and salaried manufacturing positions
- Coordinate pre-employment requirements, new-hire documentation, onboarding, and orientation
- Partner with plant leadership on workforce planning, staffing requirements, skills gaps, vacancies, and production needs
- Monitor turnover, attendance, retention, and other workforce trends
- Support employee engagement and retention initiatives
- Assist leadership with workforce ramp-up and changing production staffing requirements
HR Administration & Compliance
- Coordinate HRIS transactions, employee status changes, personnel records, job data, and other HR documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee files and records
- Coordinate payroll-related information with corporate HR and payroll teams
- Support benefits communication and open enrollment
- Assist with leave administration, accommodation processes, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work activities
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and North Carolina employment requirements
- Support company record-retention and documentation requirements
- Prepare and analyze HR metrics including headcount, vacancies, turnover, attendance, overtime, time-to-fill, and employee-relations trends
Environmental, Health & Safety Support
- Partner with Operations and the Human Resources & EHS Coordinator to support facility EHS programs
- Participate in workplace incident reviews and investigations
- Support corrective-action tracking and follow-up
- Assist with OSHA recordkeeping and required safety documentation
- Support workers’ compensation administration and return-to-work coordination
- Assist with safety training, communication, inspections, and employee awareness
- Identify HR or EHS concerns requiring immediate escalation or corrective action
- Help promote a strong safety culture throughout the manufacturing operation
Training & Employee Development
- Coordinate and support training for employees and supervisors
- Assist with new-hire orientation and onboarding programs
- Support training related to company policies, respectful workplace expectations, performance management, employee relations, and safety
- Coach supervisors on effective employee communication and application of company policies
- Participate in employee events, audits, communications, and continuous-improvement activities
Team & Leadership Support
- Provide day-to-day work direction, coaching, and prioritization to the Human Resources & EHS Coordinator
- Partner closely with the HR Director, Director of Operations, supervisors, and corporate HR team
- Independently evaluate routine HR and EHS concerns and recommend appropriate courses of action
- Exercise sound judgment in prioritizing employee-relations, staffing, compliance, and safety matters
- Recognize when matters require immediate escalation to HR or operational leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field
- Active SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification OR a master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience
- Minimum 3 years of Human Resources experience supporting a manufacturing workforce
- Hands-on EHS experience within a manufacturing environment
- Experience with incident investigations, corrective actions, safety training, OSHA recordkeeping, workers’ compensation, and regulatory compliance
- Strong working knowledge of employee relations, recruiting, performance management, leave and accommodation processes, wage-and-hour requirements, and HR recordkeeping
- Experience supporting hourly employees and front-line supervisors in an on-site environment
- Strong investigation, documentation, communication, judgment, and conflict-resolution skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS/payroll systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Boat or marine manufacturing experience
- Composites, fiberglass, automotive, powersports, or other durable-goods manufacturing experience
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or similar safety training
- Experience with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills
- Experience supporting a manufacturing start-up, expansion, acquisition, or workforce ramp-up

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in both office and active manufacturing environments
- Regular presence on the manufacturing floor is required
- Exposure may include noise, dust, fiberglass/composite materials, odors, temperature changes, moving equipment, and other manufacturing conditions
- Ability to walk and stand throughout the facility and use stairs as required
- Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 25 pounds
- Must wear required PPE while working in designated manufacturing areas
- Ability to periodically adjust working hours to support multiple shifts, investigations, employee meetings, or urgent plant needs
