Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Machining Support Technician should have the ability to operate and maintain production machines within a work cell or standalone environment. This includes a variety of equipment; CNC, manual or non-CNC machines such as washers, leak-testers, etc. The expectations for this position are to be a leader and help promote and follow all safety guidelines and meet all quality and production requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Maintain a safe and orderly work area.

· Ensure all safety guarding and other safety devices are properly installed, in working order and in working condition and consistently utilized.

· Start up machine(s) from a “power off” situation.

· Make tooling adjustments to machining centers; such as (panel view of tool offset.)

· Maintain leak-testers such as changing seals and O-rings.

· Maintain Poka-Yokes, sensors, lasers that affect the Poka-Yoke process.

· Perform visual quality checks along with the use and understanding of gauges and/or precision measuring devises.

· Identify machine faults and react according to procedure.

· Interpret “Quality Inspection checks” and make the proper adjustments to make parts within Customer Specification.

· Pro-actively provide support and problem solving. Work with Process Engineers, Maintenance, on continuous improvement of processes.

· Help troubleshoot with process issues. Such as tooling problems, machine problems, leak-tester problems, Poka-Yoke lasers, sensors acting up.

· Perform and document Total Production Maintenance (TPM) operations as required. Lubricate, change filters, clean filters, and check fluid levels, etc.

· Prepare and maintain accurate production records with Machining Quality Process sheets and Count Boards. Utilize applicable route sheets, Serialized labels, CMS counts, and scrap recording and downtime.

· Read and follow operator, set-up and Quality instructions following quality standards. Routinely review and maintain all QS books to ensure instructions are accurate and current.

· Maintain a work environment which follows the guidelines of 5S, SmartWay, and waste elimination.

· Train and transfer knowledge to all group members and new personal on the operation of machines and processes within specialty area.

· Actively work on cost-reduction and continuous improvement activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Heavy Manufacturing Environment. MKC houses different machinery, equipment, processes, and chemicals which produce potential hazards in the work environment such as: ergonomic, chemical, machine point of operation, and powered industrial vehicle traffic. These hazards are controlled through means of engineering controls, such as machine guarding, and administrative controls, such as safety policies and programs. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy. In certain areas of the facility, employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as Hearing Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety Toe Shoes, and hand protection.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to regularly walk throughout all the manufacturing facilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reading, writing and shop math skills (including fractions, decimals and both English and metric measurement).
  • Preferably four (4) or more years of machining experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

JOB SKILLS

· Have the knowledge of when and the timing of tool wear and how to make tool changes such as mill cutters, drills, taps, and cutting inserts as well as adjustments to keep parts within customer quality specification.

· Mechanically inclined, adaptable and able to communicate both verbally and in writing. Leadership skills and close attention to detail is required along with commonsense.

· Read and understand blueprints and dimension & gage reports.

· Able to use and understand, micrometers, electronic indicators, dial calipers and other precision gauges as needed to perform duties of the Support Tech.

· Demonstrate leadership abilities, which include; instruct, train, monitor, and coach.

· Less than 5%
