Job Title: Radiology Technologist

Salary: $35- $50 hourly (DOE)

Openings: (1) Full-time

Location: Westminster, CA

Position Purpose: Under indirect supervision, operates radiographic equipment using imaging modalities. Performs general diagnostic radiology procedures in compliance with department protocols. Evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures. Applies principles of radiation protection and provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures.

Core Duties and responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

3. Demonstrates competence in the operation of radiographic equipment, both mobile and stationary in various patient care settings.

4. Consistently selects correct technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the patients age and body habitus.

5. Consistently selects other equipment settings/parameters (e.g. locks on equipment and tables, tube placement, control panel settings, etc.) appropriately.

6. Consistently processes radiographic images properly, utilizing automated equipment.

7. Uses proper sterile technique.

8. Consistently operates imaging computer properly and in accordance with department protocols (CT, MRI).

9. Demonstrates competence in the positioning of patients for radiographic imaging.

10. Routinely positions patients accurately relative to the requirements of the study as stated in the department protocols.

11. Utilizes various immobilizing devices such as sponges and sandbags whenever necessary to obtain acceptable radiographs and/or electronic images.

12. Always takes special care in handling/positioning patients with critical injuries or trauma to avoid further injury.

13. Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served.

14. Able to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed in accordance with department policy. (Neonatal. Pediatric, Adolescent. Adult, Geriatric).

15. Adjusts technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the physical maturation of the patient.

16. Modifies patient positioning techniques relative to the patient’s physical and cognitive abilities.

17. Always takes special care in handling, positioning and/or restraining infants and geriatric patients to avoid injury or excessive radiation exposure.

18. Never leaves infant, pediatric or disoriented geriatric patient unattended. 0%

19. Exercises Good Clinical Judgment:

a. Consults with the radiologist or other clinician for purposes of clarifying orders.

b. Selects alternate or additional view appropriately relative to the patient’s condition.

c. Does not attempt to perform an exam in any case in which it cannot be performed safely and/or properly.

20. Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.

21. Completes and initials the standard consultation form and the Radiology Processing Record accurately and immediately following each procedure.

22. Demonstrates good communication skills.

23. Communicates verbally in a clear and concise manner.

24. Communicates verbal instruction to member in a manner that is conducive to understanding and compliance.

25. Demonstrates courteous and appropriate telephone skills.

26. Speaks English in the presence of patients, except as required to interpret for non-English-speaking patients.

27. Communicates in writing accurately, completely and legibly, and routes such communication appropriately and in a timely manner.

28. Demonstrates professional maturity in all interactions with patients and staff.

29. Strives to maintain good working relationships and rapport with patients, other members of the department and the health care team.

30. Is flexible and cooperative about schedule changes made to maximize productivity and efficiency.

31. Responds appropriately to constructive criticism from supervisors and peers.

32. Functions independently within the defined scope of position.

33. Meets productivity norms achieved by peers within the department.

34. Maintains equipment, supplies and work area in accordance with department guidelines.

35. Keeps equipment and work area clean at all times.

36. Routinely handles equipment with care to avoid damage.

37. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisory staff promptly.

38. Organizational Rules, Policies, and Procedures:

a. Observes all organizational, regional, medical service area and Diagnostic Imaging Department policies and procedures.

b. Is compliant with organizational, regional and medical service area policies and procedures.

c. Observes Regional Radiation Safety Standards and Department Safety Policies.

d. Maintains standards or professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.

e. Greets members promptly and courteously with eye contact and a pleasant expression and tone of voice.

f. Informs members of reason for any delays or anticipated delays in their care.

g. Treats patients in accordance with the Patients Bill of Rights.

h. Conducts only work related conversations when patients are waiting for service

Requirements

Education, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • California Radiologic Technologist Certificate required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Radiologic Technologist experience required.
  • Experience performing specialty radiology examinations required.
  • Proficient in reading and reviewing digital imaging systems (PACS) required.
  • Experience performing Arthrogram X-ray procedures preferred.
  • California DEXA (Bone Densitometry) certification/licensure preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of radiology safety standards, patient positioning, and imaging protocols.

Work Schedule:

  • Schedule for this role is Monday - Friday between 8 AM- 5 PM.
  • Possibility for a Saturday or Sunday shift ( Saturday 8 AM -5 PM Sunday 8 AM -3 PM )
  • FTOC is an in-person organization first, and foremost. Employees are expected to be on-site for their scheduled shifts.
  • Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., however, employee schedules vary, depending on organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs. As such, FTOC may need to modify work schedules to meet such needs.
  • Holidays and weekends may be required depending on an employee’s department due to organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs as FTOC continues to grow and expand work days and hours.
  • Overtime may also occur due to organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs.

Work Location:

  • This role is set to work in Westminster, CA.
  • While employees may be assigned a primary site (Tustin, Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Wellness Center, Mobile Units, Treehaven, Magnolia, Telehealth, etc.), employees may be required to work at another site based on organizational, staffing, community, and patient needs.
  • This role may be performed in an office, clinic, or community-based setting depending on organizational needs. The position may require prolonged periods of sitting, frequent computer use, travel to outreach events or partner sites, and the ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to drive to FTOC facilities as needed. The ability to sit for extended periods of time, and the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
