In this hourly, full-time position, you will work closely with radiologists, providers, and clinical staff to perform radiographic procedures, support patient intake and preparation, and assist with routine clinical and administrative tasks. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, patient-focused professional who is comfortable balancing hands-on clinical work with the technical demands of operating X-ray equipment and maintaining accurate medical records.
What You'll Do
- Perform routine diagnostic X-ray procedures in accordance with provider orders and established safety and quality standards
- Prepare patients for radiographic exams, explain procedures, obtain informed consent when required, and ensure patient comfort and privacy
- Verify patient identity and exam details, position patients correctly, and adjust equipment settings to obtain optimal images
- Apply and monitor appropriate radiation safety measures for patients, self, and staff, including proper use of shielding and adherence to ALARA principles
- Assist providers with basic clinical procedures within scope of practice, such as vital sign measurement, EKGs, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing
- Complete patient intake and rooming, including medical history, medication review, allergies, and chief complaint documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Ensure all images are properly labeled, processed, and transmitted to the PACS or radiology system for interpretation in a timely manner
- Maintain exam rooms, X-ray suites, and equipment in a clean, safe, and organized condition, including daily checks and minor troubleshooting
- Manage patient flow by coordinating exam schedules, communicating wait times, and collaborating with front office and clinical teams
- Follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including cleaning, disinfection, and proper handling of equipment and supplies
- Assist with administrative duties such as documentation, order entry, scanning, faxing, and responding to patient and provider inquiries as directed
- Participate in ongoing training, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings to support best practices and regulatory compliance
- Recognize and promptly report any unusual patient findings, equipment issues, or safety concerns to the appropriate clinical or technical staff
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited radiologic technology or limited X-ray program and/or medical assistant program, as applicable to state requirements
- Current state license or certification to perform radiographic examinations, if required by state law
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with ARRT or equivalent credentialing body preferred, if applicable
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA) preferred or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe, if required by the employer
- Basic knowledge of radiographic positioning, anatomy, and radiation safety principles
- Previous experience in a clinical or outpatient imaging setting preferred, but new graduates may be considered
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and basic computer applications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and colleagues
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient positioning and transfers for extended periods, and to lift or move patients or equipment as needed, within safe limits
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols, regulatory standards, and privacy/confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification, or ability to obtain prior to or shortly after hire
- Flexibility to work a full-time, hourly schedule, which may include variable shifts, evenings, or weekends depending on departmental needs
