Salary Range or Pay Grade: $90,000 annually on a full-time basis
Description
The Safe Robotics Laboratory seeks a part-time Professional Specialist to design and oversee human-subjects research for its work on safe and aligned artificial intelligence. The role requires expertise in cognitive and behavioral research methods. It will not include any teaching or precept duties. The supervising faculty member sets project goals. The appointee selects methods independently and consults with the supervisor when results, risks, or timelines change.
Responsibilities- Design protocols and measures for studies of human feedback and AI-human interaction.
- Oversee the execution and analysis of those studies.
- Advise graduate students on experimental design and cognitive-science methods.
- Set consistent methodological standards across laboratory projects.
- Contribute to publications arising from the research.
The appointment will be at 50% duty time. Initial appointment will be for 5 months with the possibility of reappointment contingent on meeting all the requirements.

Qualifications
- PhD in psychology, cognitive science, behavioral science, or a closely related field.
- Experience designing and conducting human-subjects research, including feedback elicitation and behavioral measurement.
- Peer-reviewed publications in a relevant field.
- Ability to work independently and advise researchers on study design.
- Research experience in behavioral science and artificial intelligence, AI alignment, or human-machine interaction.
- Experience advising doctoral students.
- Experience working with engineering or computational research groups.
