Job Description
The Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides operational leadership for the development, governance,
adoption, and responsible use of artificial intelligence across PIH Health. This position serves as a key leader connecting clinical operations, information technology, data science, quality and patient safety, privacy, cybersecurity, legal/compliance, research, and executive leadership. The Director will establish and execute an enterprise AI governance plan that improves patient outcomes, clinical quality, workforce experience, operational performance, access, and organizational innovation while ensuring that AI is implemented safely, ethically, equitably, securely, and in compliance with applicable requirements. The Director will lead the operational direction of the organization's AI governance program and work closely with the AI Committee to monitor and continuously improve AI applications.
SPECIFIC SKILLS NEEDED
• Demonstrated experience leading complex AI initiatives from strategy through implementation.
• Demonstrated understanding of AI/ML concepts, including generative AI and large language models.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, executives, technology professionals,
• legal/compliance teams, and other stakeholders.
• Experience developing or implementing AI governance, risk management, or responsible AI programs.
• Success in this role may be measured by:
• Establishment and maturity of AI governance
• Percentage of material AI systems appropriately assessed and inventoried
• Successful monitoring and adoption of high-value AI initiatives
• Clinical quality and patient safety outcomes
• AI-related incident rates and resolution
• Privacy and cybersecurity performance
• Equity and bias monitoring
• User and clinician satisfaction
• Patient experience
• Workforce productivity and experience
• Financial and operational value generated by AI
• Successful completion of AI education and training
• Executive and stakeholder satisfaction
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Significant progressive leadership experience in AI, data science, analytics, digital health, clinical informatics, technology, or a related field
• Experience working in healthcare, health systems, healthcare technology, life sciences, or a closely related environment
Preferred:
• Relevant certifications in healthcare informatics, AI, data science, cybersecurity, privacy, or project/program management.
• Master’s degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, informatics, healthcare administration, engineering, public health, or a related field.
• Clinical informatics or healthcare technology experience.
• Experience with clinical decision support or clinical AI.
• Experience with generative AI implementation.
• Knowledge of healthcare privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience evaluating algorithmic bias and health equity.
• Experience with AI vendor selection and contract governance.
• Experience building enterprise AI governance committees. Experience with research, innovation, or academic partnerships.
