Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Service Manager

Reports To: Service Manager

Location: Greensboro

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

FLSA Status: Hourly


This position has typical hours of Monday – Friday from 8AM – 5PM, Saturdays as needed


Job Summary:

The Assistant Service Manager supports the Service Manager in overseeing daily service operations, ensuring high-quality repairs, efficient workflow, and excellent customer service. This role helps manage technicians, schedules, parts coordination, and safety while maintaining productivity and profitability.


Essential Functions and Tasks:

Operations & Workflow

  • Assist in planning and coordinating daily service work orders
  • Help prioritize jobs to meet deadlines and customer expectations
  • Monitor work progress and follow up on delayed or incomplete jobs
  • Support scheduling of technicians and on-call coverage

Technician Support & Supervision

  • Assist in supervising service technicians and apprentices
  • Help with onboarding, training, and coaching of technicians
  • Ensure technicians follow standard repair procedures and safety policies
  • Assist in performance evaluations and productivity tracking

Customer & Communication

  • Communicate with customers regarding service status, delays, and repairs
  • Help resolve customer concerns or service issues professionally
  • Support warranty and service documentation

Parts, Inventory & Tools

  • Coordinate with parts department or vendors to ensure parts availability
  • Help track inventory, tools, and equipment usage
  • Assist with cost control and minimizing downtime due to parts shortages

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety procedures and proper use of PPE
  • Assist with inspections and compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Promote a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment

Administrative Support

  • Assist with service reports, work orders, and documentation
  • Support labor tracking, timecards, and job costing
  • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (technical certification preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in service, maintenance, or repair operations
  • Prior lead technician or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical or technical knowledge
  • Ability to read work orders, manuals, and schematics
  • Good computer skills (CMMS, work orders, spreadsheets preferred)

Required Physical Abilities:

Physical requirements of this position may require a range of activities. These can include, but are not limited to:

  • Lifting and carrying – the ability to lift and transport objects of specified weights, which may vary by job. For example, a job may require lifting up 25-50lbs regularly.
  • Standing and walking – this position will require standing and walking for periods of time
  • Bending and stooping – bending, stooping, or crouching are requiring to effectively preform essential duties of this position.
  • Reaching and pushing/pulling – the ability to reach for items, push carts, or pull equipment will be necessary for daily activities.
  • Sitting – there will be times this position will be needed to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • This position will also be required to operate certain machinery and other equipment safely.


Work Environment:

This position will require employees to work in certain weather conditions, such as heat, cold, as well as potential confined spaces.
