  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists while identifying opportunities for earned media coverage across national, regional, and industry publications.
  • Draft, edit, and oversee external communications including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, talking points, executive messaging, and public statements.
  • Collaborate with legal, advocacy, and leadership teams to translate complex issues into clear, engaging, and accurate communications for diverse audiences.

  • Prepare executives and organizational representatives for interviews, media appearances, and public speaking engagements through messaging support and coaching.
  • Supervise and mentor communications staff, establish team priorities, improve operational processes, and foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 7–10 years of experience in communications, media relations, public affairs, or rapid-response communications, ideally within legal, advocacy, nonprofit, or public policy environments.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing or mentoring communications professionals.
  • Demonstrated success securing earned media placements and executing high-volume communications campaigns under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, and editorial judgment with experience producing publication-ready content.
  • Strong understanding of media strategy, crisis communications, spokesperson preparation, and journalist relationship management.
  • Experience using media monitoring and analytics platforms such as Meltwater, Cision, or Muck Rack, along with collaboration tools including Salesforce, Asana, Slack, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • Outstanding communication, organizational, leadership, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to work Pacific Time core hours and travel occasionally for meetings or organizational events.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary ranging from $105,600 to $158,400, based on experience.
  • Fully remote work opportunity within the United States.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful, high-impact communications initiatives with national visibility.
  • Collaborative, inclusive, and mission-focused work environment.
  • Leadership opportunities, including team management and professional growth.
  • Occasional travel for events, meetings, and organizational collaboration.
  • Supportive culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and continuous learning.
