Job Description:
The PACU nurse is responsible for the monitoring of post-op patients who are recovering from a surgical procedure in an outpatient setting. The PACU nurse must oversee vital signs, change bandages, administer necessary medications, assess overall recovery, and educate patients and their families about homecare instructions.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the preoperative area always has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients.
- Ensure supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order.
- Admit the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the scheduled procedure.
- Monitor the patient's medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist.
- Assure surgical consent and preoperative test results are in the medical record prior to proposed procedure.
- Report any important health history facts to the operating room nurse.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate post operatively.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Education and experience
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing with current and valid licensure with Texas State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
- 2 years of nursing experience required in ICU/Emergency Room/Recovery Room or other critical care-nursing environments preferred.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, with additional languages preferred.
- Current BLS, ACLS
- PALS Preferred
- Requirements
- Understand regulatory requirements, as well as Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and International Conference of Harmonization (ICH) guidelines.
- Knowledgeable in medical terminology
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, verbal)
- Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, as well as proprietary applications unique to the clinical research industry (such as RealTime)
