Mission Contribution:

Maintains clear and direct communication between the Board of Directors and Executive Staff for all three company entities, Memphis Goodwill, Inc. (MGI), Memphis Goodwill Industries, Inc. (MGII), and Memphis Goodwill Excel Centers (GECM), to the President/CEO to ensure sustainable growth through informed, aligned, and impactful organizational goals, corporate strategies, and projects.

Function:

Under the direct leadership and supervision of the President/CEO, is responsible for multiple roles to ensure seamless communication and coordination by and with all boards and executive staff members so that the goals and initiatives of all Memphis Goodwill entities continue to move forward effectively and efficiently without friction.

Specific Duties:

  • Serve as the point of contact between President/CEO, all Board of Directors, and Executive Staff to ensure timely, accurate, and professional communication.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the President/CEO and all Board of Directors as it relates to all meeting communications and follow-ups.
  • Supervises the daily activities of MGI, MGII, and GECM as they pertain to the appropriate Boards.
  • Coordinate and prepare calendars and materials for all board meetings, including but not limited to agendas, briefing documents, presentations, and follow-up action items.
  • Attend all company board and executive staff meetings to maintain accurate records and follow-up agenda items for the President/CEO.
  • Contact and communicate with all board members in advance of all meetings to ensure a quorum is present.
  • Prepare and distribute board packets, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timeliness.
  • Track and follow-up on action items and strategic initiatives from board and executive staff meetings ensuring progress, accountability, and deadlines are met.
  • Manage President/CEO high-priority correspondence, as it relates to company boards, ensuring responses are prompt, accurate, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Work in conjunction with the President/CEO to secure qualified candidates for vacated board seats as the needs arise and coordinates the onboarding, orientation, and procurement of all necessary ancillary documents for each new member.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage and cultivate relationships with the organization’s board members and the community at large.
  • Fostering relationships with key community partners and stakeholders to advance and advocate for the organization in the community promoting its mission, programs, and services.
  • Maintain and secure appropriately all board documents, minutes, and governance records.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and security of all organizational information and files.
  • In conjunction with the President/CEO draft executive summaries, reports, and presentations for board review.
  • Facilitate flow of information between the President/CEO with all company boards and executive leadership teams.
  • Support special projects and initiatives that require cross-functional collaboration and executive oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with governance policies, by-laws and regulatory requirements related to board operations.
  • Manages the Board of Directors sections for accreditation for all corporations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications:


  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in the basic and personal facilitating process while possessing strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google workspace, and board management platforms (e.g. Board effect, Diligent).
  • Emotional intelligence: elevated levels of self-awareness, maturity, self-control, and the ability to build trust with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills including interacting with senior leaders.
  • Excellent communication, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make recommendations.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality regarding company information.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team within the context of team-based organization.
  • Possess an attitude of personal and professional continuous improvement.

  • Training & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communication, or related field (Master’s Degree or governance certifications a plus).
  • At least five plus years’ experience in executive support, board liaison, corporate governance, or similar high-level administrative role.
  • Paralegal or legal administrative experience a plus.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and/or English a plus.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Able to sit, stand, bend and reach.
    • Able to lift, push, pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds with no support regularly. Over twenty-five (25) pounds request for additional team member assistance as needed.

    Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to work occasionally after-hours and weekends and may require some travel.
  • This role may require access to facility keys and alarm systems.
  • This role is subject to drug screen and background checks.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and a privately owned reliable means of transportation to travel throughout Goodwill territory and locations as necessary.
  • Critical Performance Factors:

    • Department performance and expenses verses budget for the Board.
    • Accuracy and timeliness of Board communications and minutes.
    • Strategic plan goals met.
    • Reporting and outcomes associated with Community Engagement vs. goals.
