About the Role Introduction

This is an exciting leadership opportunity within Oxford University Press India’s School Education business, offering the chance to shape and drive the sales strategy for the East UP market. The role provides significant exposure to regional business planning, people leadership, and commercial decision-making while contributing directly to the growth of OUP’s print, blended, and digital portfolio.

As a Senior Area Manager, you will lead a team of sales professionals, influence regional performance, and play a key role in expanding OUP’s presence across educational institutions. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, contribute to strategic initiatives, and make a tangible impact on business growth while supporting OUP’s mission of advancing education through high-quality learning solutions.

Opportunity

In this role, you will:

• Develop and implement sales strategies for OUP’s print, blended, and digital products across the region.
• Lead, coach, and mentor a team of sales professionals to achieve both print and blended sales targets.
• Profile and identify potential schools across territories to ensure comprehensive market coverage.
• Support and guide the team in expanding adoption within existing schools while driving new customer acquisition.
• Accompany team members on high-value acquisition opportunities where required.
• Build team capability by supporting product knowledge development and sales skill enhancement.
• Allocate territories, set team budgets and targets, and ensure adherence to organisational policies and processes.
• Review and approve day-to-day travel, expenses, and other team-related requests.
• Manage gratis planning, promotions, and related activities within agreed timelines.
• Develop territory-level marketing and workshop plans aligned with OUP’s product priorities and strategic objectives while ensuring adherence to approved budgets.
• Support collection activities to ensure timely payments and uninterrupted product supply across the region.
• Ensure stock availability for wholesalers, retailers, distributors, and schools through accurate forecasting and inventory planning.
• Analyse market trends and regularly provide insights and recommendations to managers and senior leadership.
• Uphold and enhance OUP India’s reputation by maintaining the highest standards of business ethics and professional conduct.

Impact of the Role

This role is critical to achieving regional sales objectives and strengthening OUP’s market presence across Central and East UP. By leading a high-performing team, driving customer acquisition, improving product adoption, and ensuring operational excellence, the successful candidate will directly contribute to business growth, customer satisfaction, and OUP’s broader educational mission.

About You Essential Criteria

• A good degree from a reputed institution; additional professional qualifications are desirable.
• Minimum 8-10 years of relevant sales experience.
• Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• High levels of integrity, accountability, dependability, and results orientation.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop team members to achieve business goals.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience managing or leading sales teams.
• Experience within the education, publishing, learning solutions, or related sectors.
• Exposure to regional sales planning, forecasting, and budget management.
