Job Description

Description:

Certified Medical Coder & Revenue Cycle Specialist – Orthopedics & Charge Capture

Job Type: Full-Time
Location: San Antonio, TX
Company: TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine

More Than Coding. More Than Charge Entry.

At TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine, accurate coding is an important part of keeping our revenue cycle running smoothly. We’re looking for a Certified Medical Coder who understands the connection between physician documentation, accurate coding, complete charge capture, and clean claims.

This is not a role for someone who simply enters what is put in front of them.

We’re looking for someone who notices when something doesn’t add up, knows how to research the issue, asks the right questions, and takes ownership of getting it resolved.

If you enjoy digging into the details, solving problems, and catching issues before they turn into denials or lost revenue, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.

What You’ll Do

  • Review physician documentation and assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and modifier coding.
  • Enter and verify charges for office visits, procedures, injections, diagnostic services, and durable medical equipment.
  • Reconcile schedules, encounters, and documentation to help ensure services are captured completely and accurately.
  • Identify missing charges, documentation inconsistencies, and potential coding issues that could impact reimbursement.
  • Research and resolve coding, charge, claim, and billing discrepancies.
  • Work with physicians and clinical teams to obtain documentation clarification when needed.
  • Identify recurring issues that may contribute to denials, rejected claims, or missed revenue.
  • Assist with denial analysis and appeals to support appropriate reimbursement.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable payer, Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Provide coding or charge clarification to support resolution of patient billing questions when needed.
  • Participate in coding audits, quality initiatives, and process improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to audit provider documentation, including office and surgical notes, to ensure coding accuracy, documentation integrity, and compliance with applicable guidelines and organizational standards.
Requirements:

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical coding, billing, or charge-entry experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, medical terminology, and insurance billing requirements.
  • Ability to interpret physician documentation and identify potential coding or charge discrepancies.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • A willingness to research, ask questions, and take ownership of issues through resolution.
  • Requires regular and consistent attendance.

Preferred

  • Certified Orthopedic Surgery Coder (COSC) or other advanced coding credential.
  • Orthopedic, spine, surgical, or ambulatory surgery coding experience.
  • Experience with physician/professional-fee coding.
  • Experience reviewing physician documentation for coding accuracy and completeness.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and commercial payer reimbursement guidelines.
  • Experience identifying missed charges, documentation gaps, coding discrepancies, or denial trends.

You’ll Probably Love This Role If...

  • You notice when something doesn’t look right and want to know why.
  • You enjoy solving problems and researching answers.
  • You understand that accurate coding requires judgment, not just data entry.
  • You’re comfortable asking questions when documentation needs clarification.
  • You take ownership instead of automatically passing problems to someone else.
  • You appreciate the details but also understand how your work affects the bigger revenue-cycle picture.

What Success Looks Like

Successful team members in this role help ensure that the services our providers perform are accurately documented, coded, captured, and prepared for billing. They catch issues before they become denials. They recognize when something is missing. They research discrepancies instead of making assumptions. And when they encounter a problem, they take ownership of helping resolve it.

Bottom line: We’re not just looking for someone who can enter charges. We’re looking for someone who can think.

Why TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine

Join a team where your expertise matters and where accurate, thoughtful coding plays an important part in supporting our physicians, our patients, and the organization. If you’re an experienced coding professional who enjoys orthopedic healthcare, problem-solving, and getting the details right, we’d love to hear from you.
