Job Description
Are you organized, dependable, and great at keeping multiple priorities on track? The City of Springfield is looking for a Public Works Operations Assistant to provide essential administrative support to the Assistant Director of Public Works—Operations.
In this role, you'll help keep the office running smoothly while working with City employees, officials, external contacts, and the public.
**This position is open ONLY to current employees of the City of Springfield.**
What You'll Do
- Coordinate office activities and respond to phone, in-person, and digital inquiries.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents.
- Manage calendars, meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements.
- Maintain files, records, and confidential information.
- Research and compile information for reports and special projects.
- Assist with budgets, expenditures, invoices, requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Provide professional and courteous service to employees, City officials, and the public.
- Strong organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and other computer applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Experience, Education, and Training
- At least three years of responsible administrative office work.
Licensing/Certification
- Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) is desirable. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide own vehicle for on-the-job transportation purposes.
