The Electrical Engineer II supports Panelmatic's low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical products and systems, providing hands-on technical expertise in the design, development, testing, and optimization of switchgear and switchboard equipment. Reporting to the Vice President, Technical Services, this role executes detailed engineering work across the product lifecycle — from proposal support and design through manufacturing, testing, and commissioning handoff — while applying the technical standards, quality practices, and component strategies established by the Technical Services organization.

This individual works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales Engineering, and Field Service to deliver accurate, code-compliant designs and to help resolve technical issues that arise during build, test, and startup.

• Engineer and design switchboard and switchgear to customer specifications, developing detailed electrical designs for components and assemblies.

• Create drawings, elevations, and electrical schematics, optimizing for power distribution, protection, and control requirements.

• Specify and select electrical components (e.g., circuit breakers, relays, transformers) based on performance criteria, applicable standards, and project requirements, applying approved component strategies established by Technical Services.

• Develop Sequences of Operation (SOO) documents and verify that system functionality aligns with design intent.

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for equipment design throughout manufacturing and testing.

• Collaborate with test and field service teams to verify physical system operation against the final design and written SOO.

• Support Factory Witness Tests (FWT) by troubleshooting issues and communicating technical solutions to customers and internal teams.

• Provide engineering and technical support to manufacturing to optimize production and industrial engineering practices.

• Investigate quality concerns and testing discrepancies, feeding lessons learned back into design practices.

• Manage assigned projects from detailed design through validation, coordinating technical timelines with procurement and production.

• Act as a key technical resource for Sales and Project Management, supporting technical proposal development, preliminary bills of material (BOMs), and customer meetings.

• Help identify long-lead or critical components early in the project cycle and recommend technically sound alternatives.

• Conduct and participate in Engineering Review meetings to confirm designs meet client and regulatory specifications.

• Create design calculators and internal engineering tools, coordinating with the software team to automate workflows and improve engineering efficiency.

• Apply and help reinforce engineering standards, checkpoints, and best practices set by Technical Services leadership.

• Provide technical input during startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as needed.

• Participate in customer-facing technical discussions related to assigned projects, translating customer needs into practical, manufacturable design solutions.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

• 3–7 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field required.

• Previous field service experience, knowledge, and understanding is a plus.

• Experience with automation, test systems, or high-reliability electrical assemblies preferred.

• Working knowledge of applicable electrical standards, including UL, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, and other standards relevant to switchgear and switchboard design.

• Solid understanding of power distribution systems, switchgear, switchboards, controls, and distribution systems.

• Proficiency in electrical design tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or EPLAN.

• Strong communication skills for working across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Field Service.

• Ability to visit manufacturing facilities, testing areas, and customer sites as needed.

• Ability to observe testing and commissioning activities.

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

• Travel approximately 10–25%, depending on project support and testing/commissioning needs.
