Job Description

About Us

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network. Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking/transportation.

We actively foster a work environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own detailed mechanical design across two adjacent domains: vehicle integration hardware — mounting, bracket, and interface hardware for integrating components onto our self-propelled battery-electric railcar platform — and enclosure design for the electrical and electronic systems that support it, covering thermal management, ingress protection, EMI considerations, mounting and access. This role does not own primary vehicle structure or chassis design, and it does not cover drivetrain-specific mounting or integration hardware, which are owned elsewhere; instead, you'll provide general integration support across subsystems, occasionally touching drivetrain-adjacent interfaces without owning drivetrain design.

You'll flex between the two domains as project load shifts, taking designs from concept through documentation and into production/build under the technical and people direction of the Mechanical Engineering Team Lead. We consider candidates across a broad experience range — from five years of hands-on ownership to well over a decade of senior technical leadership — so long as you can own detailed design through production. This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll work within a team of 3–10 engineers and engage in occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Integration: Own detailed design of vehicle integration hardware — mounting, bracket, and interface hardware for integrating components onto the rail vehicle platform — and enclosures for electrical/electronic systems, from concept through documentation and into production. Does not include primary vehicle structure/chassis design or drivetrain-specific integration hardware.

  • Analysis & Validation: Perform and review structural and thermal analyses to validate integration hardware and enclosure designs for performance, durability, and safety.

  • Enclosure Engineering: Design enclosures that address thermal management, ingress protection, EMI shielding, and serviceable mounting and access for housed electrical/electronic components.

  • Design for Manufacturing: Apply GD&T and DFM/DFA practice, partnering with manufacturing and suppliers to optimize designs for cost, quality, and buildability.

  • Testing & Validation: Develop test plans and support validation and verification activities to confirm designs meet operational and functional requirements.

  • Lifecycle Support: Provide technical support for fielded designs, resolving issues that surface across the product lifecycle.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to resolve interface and integration issues across vehicle and enclosure subsystems.

  • Documentation: Maintain complete, accurate design documentation — not just drawings — supporting downstream production and service needs.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $110,000 - $130,000 plu equity.

Intramotev offers a comprehensive benefits package for all team members, including:

  • Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.

  • Vacation: Full-time employees enjoy unlimited paid time off.

  • Equity: Full-time employees receive equity in the company.

  • Parental leave: New parents receive paid time off to spend quality time with their family.

About You: Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience for vehicles, electrical enclosures, or comparable complex industrial equipment — we welcome candidates across a broad experience range, from five years of focused ownership to 15+ years of senior technical depth.

  • Demonstrated ownership of detailed mechanical design — vehicle integration hardware, enclosures, or comparable subsystems — through to production/build, not just drawing execution.

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD; comfortable working from ambiguous or partially-specified requirements.

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.

  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.

  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.

  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • Autodesk Inventor experience specifically (equivalent CAD, e.g. SolidWorks, is acceptable).

  • Experience across both vehicle structures and enclosure design, or clear transferable skill between the two.

  • GD&T and DFM/DFA practice.

  • Rail, EV, automotive, or heavy-machinery industry background.

  • Experience with a PLM/PDM system (e.g., Autodesk Vault or similar).

Typical Education and Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor and/or Master) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master + 3 years' related work experience).

Relocation

This position offers a competitive relocation package for qualified candidates.
