Job Description

Head of Creative Strategy

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Creative Strategy based in Canada.

This is a senior leadership opportunity within a high-growth performance marketing and direct-to-consumer environment.
You will own the strategic direction and performance quality of creative across a large portfolio of active Meta advertising accounts.
Leading a team of four to five strategists, you will turn account-level data into actionable creative strategies, briefs, messaging, and testing priorities.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in high-priority accounts where your expertise can directly influence performance.
You will help identify winning creative patterns while challenging the team to explore new audiences, angles, formats, and messages.
Success will come from building an increasingly autonomous strategy function that consistently produces high-performing creative at scale.
This role is ideal for an experienced performance creative leader who thrives on ownership, analytical thinking, high standards, and measurable outcomes.

Accountabilities:
  • Own strategic oversight across approximately 30–40 client accounts, guiding strategists on the messages, personas, formats, angles, and creative iterations to prioritize.
  • Approve account strategies on a biweekly or monthly cadence and ensure strategic decisions are grounded in Meta account data and performance signals.
  • Lead weekly reviews of briefs, copy, finished ads, and account direction, providing clear approval, rejection, and redirection based on strategic quality and performance potential.
  • Determine when to continue developing proven creative and when to explore new strategic territory, avoiding excessive reliance on bottom-of-funnel offers.
  • Diagnose underperforming accounts, establish corrective action plans, and ensure strategic pivots translate into concrete creative output.
  • Conduct portfolio-wide analyses to identify winning messages, formats, personas, visual patterns, and other creative variables, distinguishing meaningful signals from superficial conclusions.
  • Apply relevant performance insights across accounts while maintaining strategic consistency and adapting recommendations to each brand.
  • Directly manage and coach four to five strategists through regular feedback, development, and performance conversations, strengthening their analytical, briefing, copywriting, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Build an increasingly autonomous strategy team while maintaining high standards for creative quality and strategic rigor.
  • Contribute to hiring, performance management, and termination decisions within the strategy function.
  • Participate in client conversations when senior strategic input is required, clearly explaining creative decisions, opportunities, risks, and recommended direction.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to ensure client feedback, strategic pivots, and commitments are translated into briefs and delivered creative on schedule.
  • Support new-client onboarding from a strategic perspective and proactively address ownership gaps, delivery risks, and execution issues.
  • Step into selected high-priority or struggling accounts each week with hands-on support, including briefs, copy, and account planning, while avoiding becoming the default production strategist.
  • Operate existing systems effectively while continuously identifying opportunities to improve processes, workflows, and strategic standards.
  • Track key performance indicators including creative winner rate, strategic cadence, account health, delivery quality, and the team's 30/60/90-day progression.
Requirements
  • Deep professional experience with Meta advertising as a primary platform.
  • Experience leading a team responsible for at least $500,000 USD per month in paid-social spend across multiple accounts.
  • Proven track record of scaling creative performance, with strong expertise in creative testing, performance analysis, account-level iteration, and identifying what drives meaningful spend.
  • Previous leadership experience in strategy, performance marketing, copywriting, creative, or a closely related function; meaningful people-management experience is required.
  • Strong judgment in static advertising and direct-response copy, with the confidence to approve, reject, and redirect creative work.
  • Ability to manage a large portfolio of accounts and prioritize where senior strategic attention can create the greatest impact.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to translate performance data into clear creative recommendations.
  • Excellent client-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain strategic decisions clearly and confidently.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop team members with different experience levels, strengths, and working styles.
  • Strong ownership mindset and comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-volume agency environment with high expectations.
  • Flexibility to step beyond core responsibilities when account performance, deadlines, or team needs require additional support.
  • Agency experience is strongly preferred, though not mandatory.
  • Ability to work remotely while maintaining strong collaboration, accountability, and communication.
Benefits
  • Compensation starting at $140,000 USD per year, with additional room for candidates who have led teams at comparable scale.
  • Fully remote position for candidates based in the US, Canada, or UK.
  • Working hours aligned with Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
  • Direct strategic ownership across approximately 30–40 brands.
  • Leadership responsibility for a team of four to five strategists.
  • Significant influence over hiring, performance management, and team development decisions.
  • Opportunity to shape and improve an entire creative strategy function.
  • High degree of autonomy and ownership within a performance-driven environment.
  • Opportunity to work at the intersection of performance marketing, creative strategy, and DTC advertising.
  • A leadership role focused on building a stronger, more autonomous team and delivering measurable creative performance.
