About This Position

Job Overview:

The RWJBarnabas Health Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and providing transportation for clients and executives to and from Children's Specialized Hospital on a daily basis. The Transportation Specialist routes daily trips in an efficient, effective and safe manner; resolves scheduling conflicts; and provides safe, dependable, and flexible driving transportation services to and from activities and functions.

Location:

Seeking candidates in the Western New Jersey/Pennsylvania region as that is where a majority of the driving routes will take place.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid US Driver's License and CDL
  • Comfortable operating twelve to fifteen passenger van
  • Preferred experience in security, transportation, or safety related field
  • Good verbal and written English · Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and de-escalation skills

Preferred:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (i.e. verbal, written) · Bilingual (dependent upon facility) strongly preferred · General knowledge of auto mechanics

Scheduling Requirements

  • Variable (8 hour) shifts
  • Full Time

Essential Functions:

  • Provides transportation for clients and executives on a daily basis.

  • Provides transportation assistance for patients as needed.

  • Coordinates with other drivers or security personnel.

  • Attends bi-weekly multi-disciplinary staff meetings.

  • Evaluates and responds in a timely manner to events and incidents in accordance with System policies.

  • Performs weekly van safety and maintenance checks.

  • Schedules van maintenance and maintains service records.

  • Maintains all necessary paperwork: registration, insurance, etc.

  • Schedules van motor vehicle inspections.

  • Ensures vehicles are clean, vacuumed and clear of trash on a daily basis.

  • Keeps accurate transportation schedule and participation records, maintains transportation mileage activity logs/sheets, and produces written and/or oral reports as needed or requested.

  • Monitors behavior of clients being transported; reporting any observed incidences of inappropriate behavior.

  • Liaise with vendors and internal customers to address transportation complaints/concerns.

  • Adheres to company policy regarding proper use of Dash Cams, which assist in the protection and safety of persons and property, prevention or detection of criminal offenses, and potentially driver training.

  • Responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors. etc.

  • Performs security duties as needed and other duties as assigned.

  • Trains all new drivers.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Must be able to visually observe and evaluate conditions and situations. Must be able to lift or carry light items or assist with patient transportation. Must be able to perform hour-long walking tours. May be exposed to all weather conditions.
