Job Description

Position Summary

The School-Based Therapist provides direct mental health services to students within assigned school campuses, supporting the mission of Family Service Center to strengthen individuals and families through accessible, community-based care. This role focuses on improving students’ emotional well-being, behavioral functioning, and academic success by delivering counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with school staff and families.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Clinical Services
-Provide individual, group, and family therapy to students using evidence-based practices
-Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
-Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards
-Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments as needed

School Collaboration
-Partner with teachers, school counselors, and administrators to support student success
-Participate in student support meetings (e.g., RTI, IEP, 504 plans)
-Deliver classroom presentations or workshops on mental health topics as needed

Family Engagement
-Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress
-Provide psychoeducation and connect families to community resources
-Support family involvement in treatment planning and care coordination

Care Coordination & Community Integration
-Collaborate with internal Family Service Center programs to ensure holistic care
-Coordinate referrals to higher levels of care or additional services when appropriate
-Advocate for students and families to reduce barriers to mental health services

Compliance & Administrative Duties
-Adhere to all ethical guidelines, confidentiality laws (HIPAA/FERPA), and agency policies
-Meet productivity standards and service delivery expectations
-Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

Education & Licensure
-Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
-Active license (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT) or license-eligible (associate level accepted with supervision)
-Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred; stipends available for Spanish-speaking professionals to support our diverse community
