Construction Layout & Survey Specialist
Location: Virginia or Maryland
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Compensation: Starting at $30.00/hour+ (higher compensation available based on experience and technical expertise)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Layout & Survey Specialist to support structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This field-focused role is responsible for gathering and verifying site measurements, establishing control points, supporting installation accuracy, and ensuring structural components are positioned according to project specifications.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in active construction environments, utilizing modern surveying technology, and collaborating with installation teams to maintain alignment and quality standards throughout the construction process.
Core ResponsibilitiesSite Measurement & Layout- Collect accurate field measurements and survey data for construction and installation activities
- Establish project control points, building grid lines, column locations, and anchor bolt layouts
- Verify elevations, structural placement, and dimensional accuracy throughout project execution
- Create and maintain as-built documentation reflecting completed work conditions
- Assist field teams by confirming proper alignment and positioning of structural steel components
- Support installation activities by verifying plumbness, elevation, and orientation requirements
- Coordinate with multiple trades to ensure accurate layout and integration of installed components
- Help identify and resolve field alignment issues before they impact project schedules
- Operate total stations and other precision surveying equipment
- Utilize software and technology platforms including:
- Trimble
- Bluebeam
- CAD applications
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Maintain organized field records, measurements, reports, and project documentation
- Follow all site-specific safety requirements and company safety procedures
- Participate in project planning, coordination meetings, and field discussions
- Work closely with project teams, installation crews, and other construction professionals
- Maintain professionalism while working in active construction environments
- Minimum of three years of experience in field surveying, construction layout, structural steel erection, or a related field
- Experience performing layout work involving structural steel and miscellaneous metals
- Proficiency with total stations or comparable surveying instruments
- Understanding of building alignment, orientation, and structural layout principles in accordance with industry standards
- Ability to travel regularly to project locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region
- Comfortable working from aerial lifts, elevated work platforms, and steel structures at height
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Experience supporting structural steel installation projects
- Knowledge of field coordination processes involving multiple construction trades
- Familiarity with producing and interpreting as-built documentation

Additional Information
