Med-Ophthalmology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005721)
The University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department, Genome Editing and Ocular Therapeutics Group is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to advance our research programs in the molecular engineering of novel genome editors and the development of genome editing-based ocular genomic medicine, with a particular focus on investigating gene therapy in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and its therapeutic potential.
The candidate should also demonstrate a strong interest and enthusiasm for learning new experimental approaches, including evaluating the effects of candidate genes and therapeutic strategies using chicken embryo culture assays and in vivo mouse models of retinitis pigmentosa. A willingness to acquire expertise in these models and contribute to multidisciplinary studies is essential.
• Duties or Responsibilities: Molecular cloning of genetic materials; high-throughput sequencing analysis; development of high-throughput sequencing assays to characterize enzyme-substrate interactions; development of cellular assays; protein and nucleic acid analysis and quantification; and transgenic mouse model maintenance, experimentation, and analysis.
• Expectations or Qualifications
o PhD degrees with Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or relevant areas
o Research experience in molecular biology, RNA biology, protein engineering related projects are preferred
o Ability to write and publish articles; ability to assist the PI with grant writing; and ability to communicate scientific findings, both verbally and in writing
• Opportunities Available: Support post-doctoral researcher in attending genome editing and ophthalmology focused local and national research conferences; support trainees in pursuing opportunities to share their findings through oral and poster presentations; and support trainees in applying for fellowships and transition grants (postdoc to early-stage investigator awards).
