Job Summary
Provides leadership and oversight of the planning and implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control Program, and Employee Health Services. Coaches and supervises staff in support of the Director. Responsible for the delivery of safe, quality patient care as it relates to infection prevention in all patient care units, ancillary departments and ambulatory sites. Collaborates with leadership of hospital departments to plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the overall safety and care provided. Ensures compliance with screening and immunization requirements of new hire per RI regulation. Responsible for administrative activities including, staffing, coordinating assignments and delegating work to achieve desired results. Acts as a resource to staff on technical or functional issues. Provides on-the-job training and oversees orientation of new staff members. Conducts performance appraisals of supervised staff. Understands departmental budget and decision impacts. Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance. Requires sound knowledge of Infection Prevention and exceptional leadership abilities.
Core Duties:
- Responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of the organizational infection prevention and employee health services program, policies and procedures.
- Oversight of surveillance for healthcare associated infections and outbreak identification utilizing epidemiologic principles.
- Communicate infection prevention and control information and data to various committees and healthcare workers across the organization as assigned.
- Comply with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
- Knowledgeable on NHSN application
- Stay current and facilitate compliance on regulatory and accreditation standards relevant to infection prevention and control and employee health.
- Utilize performance improvement methodology as a means of enacting change
- Monitor and analyze process and outcome measures to evaluate effectiveness and sustainability.
- Participate in performance improvement committees, teams and initiatives as indicated.
- Responds to facility events to assess for infection risk and implement mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with IT to create meaningful electronic reports to enhance infection prevention initiatives.
- Investigates and coordinates response to occupational exposures including blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
- Analyze rates and trends of occupational exposures.
- Support immunization and screening programs as required by local, state and federal regulations.
- Apply work restrictions and recommendations related to communicable diseases or following an exposure.
- Knowledgeable regarding OSHA standards and ensuring compliance with the blood-borne pathogen standard and respiratory protection program.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing, public health or epidemiology
- Current RN licensure by RIDOH, Board of Licensing
- Three or more years of healthcare clinical or operational experience
Required Certifications, Licensure:
Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC)
