Logbook Scanning Technician in Mystic, Connecticut at Mystic Seaport Museum Inc

Please note that this is a grant funded position and will be scheduled for 17 hours a week for approximately one year.

• 
  
• Evaluate documents for scan readiness and flag any that require repair or protective enclosure
• Safely handle potentially fragile materials in accordance with established preservation standards
• Operate an overhead book scanner to digitize manuscript logbooks safely and accurately
• Ensure consistent image quality and perform basic post-processing tasks (cropping, rotation, file naming, file moving)
• Transcribe scanned logbooks using machine-assisted tools
• Upload completed files to a digital access repository
• Track daily scanning progress and update project logs and metadata as needed
• Perform basic maintenance on scanning equipment and report issues promptly

• Scanning experience preferred
• Familiarity with archival handling and digitization best practices a plus
• Proficiency with file management, spreadsheet and image software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, IrfanView , Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel)
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and meet productivity targets
• Ability to handle repetitive tasks
