Job Description

Job Summary:

Assists the Director of Environmental Services in establishing policies, procedures, objectives, work standards and budgets to provide efficient, cost-effective operation of the department while providing high-quality services, maintain qualified, well-trained staff and develop programs that enhance and educate. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Description of responsibilities include:

  • Promotes a customer service mindset at all times to both internal and external customers.
  • Responds to all requests with a can-do attitude. Follows up on requests with a sense of urgency.
  • Views everything with a process improvement mindset.
  • Responsible for planning, directing, delegating and implementing established department procedures and programs that meet goals and ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Evaluates services provided through inspections, interviews, and staff meetings with other department personnel, making recommendations for changes.
  • Oversees room inspections and accountability of Supervisors and FTE’s.
  • Establishes policies and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements, evaluating and revising as needed.
  • Coordinates services and/or work schedules with other departments for the routine services and special projects.
  • Works with Infection Prevention to ensure a clean, safe environment for our patients, staff and customers. Represents EVS with IFC walks.
  • Represents EVS with all EOC rounds. In charge of all follow-up and communication to the EVS staff.
  • Develops and supervises a training program that promotes knowledgeable, skilled, motivated employees. Review and revise as needed.
  • Creates, distributes and maintains all necessary reports and documentation for the department. Consistently submits Monthly and Hours Reports accurately and on time.
  • Is over the coordination with nursing for project work specific to relocation of departments.
  • Oversees and coordinates project cleanup work per request from all FGH departments.
  • Recruits and develops personnel, ensures work assignments and schedules meet department and facility needs to maintain quality standards.
  • Ensures department Training Programs are being conducted within appropriate timeframes.
  • Orders all supplies/equipment through approved vendors.
  • Champions all departmental Customer Service Initiatives.
  • Knows all procedures, employee personnel manuals and meets all regulatory agency requirements.
  • Maintains a safe work environment for all internal and external customers.
  • Handles varying workloads and meets changing deadlines as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred, special courses in Housekeeping or institutional management or equivalent experience. Thorough knowledge of housekeeping supplies, equipment, chemicals and agents required.

Work Experience:

At least five years’ work experience is required. Previous experience in Housekeeping/Management desired.

Mental Demands:

Must demonstrate excellent planning, delegating, organizational, and decision-making skills, use good judgment under pressure, practice good public relations, perform repetitive tasks with close attention to detail and frequent interruptions, demonstrate initiative and cooperativeness.
