Project Manager (12-month term contract) in Barrie, Ontario at REMCAN PROJECTS LP

Job Description:

The Project Manager reports to the Vice President, Projects and Estimating (or their designate). The Project Manager provides leadership, and in some instances depending on the scope of work, will provide assistance on a variety of projects across REMCAN's system. As the Project Manager you will provide support to the Technical Services team and Field Operations by creating, planning, and analyzing a variety of innovative projects involving various transportation sectors including Class 1 rail, Light Rail Transit, and various rail/general construction projects. Each project's responsibilities will vary however the position is responsible for individual project documentation, coordination of Safety related plans and processes and the delivery of equipment, material and supplies.

As a Project Manager, you will be required to attend a variety of client meetings including specific job sites for oversight of the work being performed. As such, you may be required to travel approximately 40% of your time (dependent on client and operational activities or constraints, the requirement to travel may increase from the above).

Primary Responsibilities / Duties:

• Manage all duties related to project and project site administration including the preparation and filing of all documents related to site administration, maintenance files of project and review of submitted timesheets.
• Manages and monitors the contractual performance of the project; communicates will all internal and external stakeholders to ensure that assigned duties and responsibilities are performed per agreed upon objectives - monitor and control construction costs and schedules, identifying trends and take action to avoid cost and schedule overruns.
• Reviews project proposals and plans to determine scope of work, time frame (deadlines), procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
• Work closely with Health, Safety, and Environmental team to ensure adherence to all site-specific rules and regulations as well as REMCAN safety rules, processes and procedures.
• Focus on building relationships and working effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinates with department managers to establish work plans and staffing for each phase of the project.
• Ensures that project activities (entire scope of work) comply with all government regulations (provincial and in some instances, federal).
• Verifies completed project estimates based on detailed review of specifications - works closely with REMCAN's estimators.
• Leads meetings with assigned project staff and management communicating information related to each department's requirements concerning individual project requirements.
• Vendor and contractor management:
  • Oversee various project vendors and contractors, including engineering service providers, sub-contractors, and field support services.
  • Coordinate Request for Information (RFI) and change orders with Project Coordinators and Operations Supervisors.
