Position Description: Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator – Machine Safety
The EHS Coordinator at LayerZero plays a critical role in supporting and promoting a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. This position is responsible for developing and supporting the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the site’s environmental, health, and safety programs in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
Requirements:Primary Duties:
· Monitor and enforce machine safety compliance across the manufacturing floor, including guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), equipment operation, and proper use of PPE.
· Perform machine-specific risk assessments, hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety audits to identify mechanical, electrical, and operational hazards.
· Ensure all equipment meets machine guarding standards, including point-of-operation protection, interlocks, and emergency stop systems.
· Lead and support lockout/tagout (LOTO) programs, including procedure development, audits, and employee compliance verification.
· Conduct incident investigations related to machinery and equipment, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
· Maintain accurate EHS and machine safety documentation, including inspection records, LOTO procedures, equipment certifications, and training logs.
· Support the rollout of machine safety improvements, including upgrades, retrofits, guarding installations, and automation safety controls.
· Deliver and coordinate training on machine safety topics, such as:
o Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
o Machine guarding
o Safe equipment operation
o Electrical safety awareness
o Emergency stop procedures
· Partner with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure safe design, installation, and commissioning of new equipment.
· Assist in developing and updating machine safety policies and procedures, including guarding standards, energy control programs, and safe work instructions.
· Conduct pre-use and periodic equipment safety inspections to verify proper function and compliance.
· Collaborate with operations to integrate safe work practices into daily machine operation and production activities.
· Support compliance with OSHA machine safety standards and assist during internal/external EHS audits or inspections.
· Track and report machine safety metrics, including near misses, equipment-related incidents, LOTO compliance, and corrective action completion.
· Assist in ergonomics and human-machine interaction assessments to reduce injury risks.
Experience & Skills
· Strong knowledge of machine safety principles, including OSHA 1910 Subpart O, ANSI standards (e.g., ANSI B11), and lockout/tagout requirements.
· Experience with risk assessments, machine guarding design, and hazard mitigation strategies.
· Familiarity with industrial equipment such as CNC machines, conveyors, presses, robotics, and fabrication machinery.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
· Strong communication skills to effectively train and influence operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors.
· Minimum 2+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with exposure to machine safety programs.
Education:
· Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field. (Preferred)
· Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 30-Hour Certification or OSHA 511, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER, or equivalent safety certifications.
