The primary purposes of the Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) are to provide direct patient care, patient and family teaching, and work cooperatively within the interdisciplinary health care team in maintaining standards of nursing care under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act. |

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. |

Current, active licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing. |
|
| • |
Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required. |
|

IV Certification, preferred. |
| • |
Successful completion of organization and department orientation requirements. |
|
| • |
Ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology. |
|
| • |
Acquire CIDE certification within 3 months of hire. |

Administers treatments and other direct care; prepares and administers medications as prescribed; observes and evaluates patients’ responses to medications and treatments; and identifies and promptly communicates adverse reactions to the Registered Nurse. |

Collects specimens as ordered. |

Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and students. |
|

Collaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice. |
|

LPN is a patient advocate in conjunction with the other members of the healthcare team and fosters patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction. |

Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice and applicable policies. |

Adhere to professional standards and guidelines, including ethical actions, relevant statutes, rules and regulations, during nursing practice. |

Work up to 12 hours per day. This unit requires 24/7 coverage. |

Staff may be assigned to different locations within the organization. |

Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks. Category II - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues by exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures will be readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks. Category III - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and Category I tasks are not a condition of employment. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood; body fluids or tissues (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone anywhere might encounter potential exposure to body fluids.) Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way. |
