The Opportunity:

Prospect Schools is seeking a K-8 Multi-Language Learner Teacher (MLL) to create engaging, inclusive learning experiences that support multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency, academic confidence, and the skills needed to thrive across all content areas. Prospect teachers are grounded in an equity-driven approach following the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum where instruction emphasizes academic rigor, critical thinking, global mindedness, and inclusive classroom practices. As an educator at Prospect, you will be part of a collaborative and high-performing instructional team and will report directly to a member of the school leadership team.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Planning and Instruction

  • Design and deliver culturally responsive, engaging lessons that support learning in an intentionally diverse classroom and actively engage a variety of different learning styles

  • Utilize data, strong content knowledge, and effective pedagogy to plan clear, objective-driven instruction to advance learning for all students

  • Collaborate with co-teachers and instructional leaders through coaching, professional development, and, when applicable, advisory groups to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth

MLL Coordination

  • Administer and interpret the NYSITELL and NYSESLAT assessments, and monitor students’ progress toward English proficiency

  • Work with Ops to ensure testing accommodations are in place for snapshots, mocks, and state tests, including the Regents

  • Create resources and professional development for the full staff around best practices for supporting MLL students

  • Engage families of multilingual learners through regular updates, translation services, and family education efforts

Classroom Environment

  • Set clear expectations and consistent routines to create a purposeful, warm, and supportive learning environment

  • Build a culturally sustaining classroom community where all students feel known, safe, valued, and respected by adults and peers

Staff Collaboration

  • Embody a “Team First” mindset by collaborating across grade level and content teams, participating in professional development, and partnering with the broader school community

  • Demonstrate a commitment to giving and receiving feedback for the purpose of continuous personal growth and betterment of the teaching and learning team

  • Contribute to the larger Sunset Yards and Prospect Schools’ community and environment by identifying and leveraging opportunities or events for displaying student work throughout the school building and sharing learnings from the class with the broader Prospect Schools community

  • Perform additional staff duties as assigned that reinforce and support adult collaboration, student data and learning, and shared accountability across the K-8 campus

Caregiver Partnership

  • Build strong partnerships with caregivers through consistent communication and regular updates on student progress

  • Use caregiver feedback to continuously improve instruction and the overall learning experience

  • Coordinate and facilitate family meetings as needed and attend any/all school wide caregiver events

About You:

  • You have earned a Bachelors Degree.

  • You have prior teaching experience.

  • You are in the process of earning or have earned a New York Teaching License Certification. (Learn more here)

Salary:

The salary range for this role starts at $63,960, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. At Prospect Schools we remain committed to providing competitive salaries.
