Job Description

Hydrus - Session Director - Portuguese (BR) - V2

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Hydrus - Session Director - Portuguese (BR) - V2 based in Brazil.

This is a freelance, remote opportunity supporting an audio data-collection project designed to improve conversational AI voices.
You will direct live recording sessions with voice contributors, helping scripted dialogue sound natural, spontaneous, and authentic.
The role combines creative performance direction with practical audio-quality monitoring and session management.
You’ll coach contributors of different experience levels, provide precise feedback, and adapt scenarios in real time when needed.
Strong Portuguese (Brazil) language expertise will be essential for ensuring natural phrasing, regional authenticity, and conversational flow.
You’ll work in a supportive environment where pacing, audio quality, and performer confidence are equally important.
This is a flexible project-based engagement suited to professionals with experience in voice direction, audio production, acting, theater, or performance coaching.

Accountabilities
  • Direct voice contributors through scripted scenarios, coaching them toward natural, conversational delivery rather than verbatim reading.

  • Establish quick and clear scene context—including who, where, and why—to help contributors deliver believable performances.

  • Improvise and adapt dialogue when necessary to fill narrative gaps and maintain natural conversational flow.

  • Adjust scripted wording to reflect natural Brazilian Portuguese phrasing, regional usage, and dialect authenticity.

  • Monitor recording quality in real time, including microphone technique, proximity, plosives, pacing, clarity, background noise, and audio levels.

  • Manage session pacing and recording targets while maintaining a consistently high standard of performance quality.

  • Provide clear, specific, and actionable direction and feedback throughout recording sessions.

  • Create a supportive, low-pressure environment that enables contributors, including those with limited voice experience, to perform confidently.

  • Keep organized notes on performance adjustments, retakes, and other session requirements.

  • Support calibration activities and supervise approximately two recording sessions per participant.

Requirements
  • Native-level fluency in Brazilian Portuguese, with an excellent ear for natural, colloquial, and regionally authentic phrasing.

  • Professional experience directing, coaching, or producing voice or audio talent, such as voice direction, casting, podcast production, dubbing/ADR, or theater direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide concise, specific, and actionable performance direction.

  • Strong practical knowledge of basic recording and microphone techniques, including proximity, plosives, room noise, levels, and vocal clarity.

  • Confidence improvising and adapting scripted material in real time while preserving the intended context and objectives.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish rapport with contributors of varying experience levels.

  • Strong listening skills and attention to subtle differences in delivery, pacing, pronunciation, and conversational authenticity.

  • A background in improv, theater direction, or acting coaching is an advantage.

  • Experience directing non-professional or first-time voice talent is a plus.

  • Familiarity with digital audio workstations or recording software such as Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, or Reaper is desirable.

  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment and maintain reliable session organization and communication.

Benefits
  • Freelance, fully remote engagement with flexibility around your availability.

  • Estimated commitment of approximately 8 hours for calibration, plus supervision of two recording sessions of around 4 hours each per participant.

  • Compensation of $50 USD per hour.

  • Project-based work that allows you to choose when and how much you contribute.

  • Opportunity to contribute directly to the development of more natural and human-sounding conversational AI.

  • Access to optional AI and Large Language Model workshops designed for professionals, with no coding experience required.

  • Support from a global contributor community and responsive project guidance.

  • Opportunity to expand your experience in AI data, conversational audio, and emerging technologies.

  • Flexible work structure with the autonomy of remote freelance engagement.
