Job Description

Marketing Account Director (Start-Ups)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Marketing Account Director (Start-Ups) based in United States.

This role leads a portfolio of 8–12 early-stage and growth-stage consumer brands, helping founders turn ambitious ideas into sustainable growth. You will act as a senior strategic partner, often working directly with founders and leadership teams to identify the most important barriers to growth. The role combines marketing strategy, client leadership, performance diagnosis, and commercial growth across rapidly evolving businesses. You will work across paid media, SEO, content, email, creative, measurement, and broader growth strategy while prioritizing what matters most. A strong focus is placed on building structure from limited data, budgets, and resources rather than relying on established infrastructure. You will also coach team members and help clients develop clearer, more measurable approaches to growth.

Accountabilities:
  • Own a portfolio of 8–12 early-stage and growth-stage client accounts, serving as a senior strategic and commercial partner.
  • Lead quarterly growth reviews that diagnose constraints across business, audience, product, messaging, channels, and measurement, then translate findings into prioritized, executable roadmaps.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, including founders, and deliver business-focused reviews that connect marketing activity to broader commercial outcomes.
  • Help clients establish measurement infrastructure and performance baselines where historical data, benchmarks, or established reporting systems are limited.
  • Coordinate paid advertising, SEO, content, email, and creative initiatives around a focused account strategy while managing scope and prioritization.
  • Identify appropriate expansion opportunities based on client maturity, business needs, and readiness, while maintaining a consultative approach to service growth.
  • Own client retention, renewals, expansion, and revenue growth across the assigned portfolio.
  • Build multi-threaded client relationships across multiple levels of an organization to strengthen account continuity and reduce relationship risk.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and proprietary technology to improve workflows, diagnose performance, support decision-making, and enhance execution.
  • Maintain consistent use of performance, client sentiment, and diagnostic systems across managed accounts.
  • Manage and develop 1–2 direct reports through regular one-to-ones, development planning, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Coach analysts and specialists, particularly those developing their experience with early-stage and founder-led businesses.
  • Contribute to portfolio KPIs including expansion-to-churn ratio, net monthly recurring revenue, client satisfaction, service expansion pipeline, and annual strategic certification.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of marketing experience, with meaningful experience supporting early-stage, scaling, or consumer-focused brands.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with founder-led businesses and navigating fast decision-making, evolving priorities, and close alignment between strategy and execution.
  • Strong ability to build marketing strategies and measurement frameworks from scratch when brand guidelines, historical data, benchmarks, or established infrastructure are unavailable.
  • Understanding of the transition from crowdfunding or early-stage momentum to sustainable direct-to-consumer acquisition and growth.
  • Excellent prioritization skills, with the judgment to identify which growth problems should be addressed immediately and which should be sequenced for later.
  • Experience working with lean or scrappy media mixes and the ability to generate meaningful performance signals from limited budgets.
  • Proven track record of retaining and expanding client accounts, including successfully navigating challenging client situations.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing strategy and execution across channels such as paid media, SEO, content, email, and creative.
  • Strong client-facing, presentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to advise senior leaders and founders.
  • Commercial awareness and experience connecting marketing strategy to retention, expansion, revenue, and broader business outcomes.
  • Ability to coach and develop team members while operating effectively in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Comfort using AI-powered technologies and digital tools to improve marketing processes, analysis, and execution.
Benefits
  • Base salary paid in USD plus commission opportunities.
  • Unlimited time off available from day one.
  • Flexible work model with fully remote, in-office, or hybrid options.
  • $50 per month healthcare stipend to help support healthcare or insurance costs.
  • National holidays plus two mental health recharge days per year.
  • Career progression and leadership opportunities within a rapidly growing organization.
  • Ongoing personal and professional development programs.
  • Quarterly awards that recognize outstanding performance and may include prize money.
  • Opportunities to participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled marketing technologies and innovative approaches to growth strategy.
  • Opportunities to mentor team members and expand leadership experience.
