Responsible for the day-to-day operation, reliability, and security of enterprise systems and network infrastructure, including compute, storage, virtualization, backup and data protection, identity and directory infrastructure, network, and voice. Leads the systems and network engineering team, executes the infrastructure roadmap set by the Director, IT Infrastructure, and serves as the primary technical escalation point for Tier 3 infrastructure matters. Delivers assigned infrastructure projects, including acquisition integration and datacenter consolidation work, on time and within approved scope.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs the systems and network engineering staff to ensure efficient, reliable operation of compute, storage, virtualization, network, voice, and datacenter resources in support of business needs
  • Provides Tier 3 technical leadership and escalation for infrastructure incidents and problems, coordinates on-call coverage, and ensures timely restoration and root cause resolution
  • Executes the infrastructure roadmap and standards set by the Director, IT Infrastructure, and contributes operational and technical input to roadmap, capacity, and lifecycle planning
  • Operates and maintains virtualized and physical compute systems, storage and storage area networks (SAN, iSCSI, DAS, cluster), and hosted and private cloud environments
  • Administers and maintains enterprise network and voice infrastructure, including routing, switching, wireless, WAN and carrier circuits, firewalls in coordination with IT Security, and telephony platforms
  • Operates identity and directory infrastructure (Active Directory, Entra ID hybrid identity, and related services) in coordination with IT Security on access governance
  • Performs and verifies backup, recovery, and data protection operations; executes disaster recovery tests and maintains recovery documentation to the objectives set by the Director
  • Implements and operates secure configurations for datacenters, virtualization platforms, and storage in partnership with IT Security, and remediates assigned vulnerability and audit findings within required timeframes
  • Monitors capacity, performance, and availability; maintains monitoring and alerting; and recommends near-term capacity actions and lifecycle replacements
  • Delivers assigned medium to large infrastructure projects, including acquisition integration and datacenter consolidation work, managing schedule, technical scope, and stakeholder communication
  • Follows and enforces infrastructure change management, ensuring changes are planned, tested, approved, communicated, and reversible, and that systems remain current with supported versions, patches, and firmware
  • Manages day-to-day performance of hosting, carrier, and infrastructure vendors and escalates contract or relationship issues to the Director
  • Provides inputs to capital and operating budget planning for assigned areas, including hardware and software renewals and lifecycle replacements
  • Maintains technical documentation, runbooks, configuration baselines, and asset records for assigned infrastructure
  • Supports IT Governance and IT General Controls objectives, including producing evidence and completing remediation for assigned controls
  • Develops and cross-trains team members, integrates staff transitioning onto the team, conducts performance management, and identifies succession and skills development needs
  • Works collaboratively with the IT Service Desk, IT Security, IT Procurement, and business stakeholders
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience:

A minimum of 10 years of experience in the IT industry and 4 years leading technical staff are required. Experience contributing to and executing a multi-year infrastructure and hosting plan, and experience operating infrastructure across multiple sites, is required.

Educational Level:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience, is required.

Required Skills:

Ability to lead and direct the work of technical staff. Strong operational management experience with enterprise systems and network infrastructure. Solid project management experience. In-depth understanding of high availability, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery principles. Excellent Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, Cisco, and VMware skills and knowledge, and strong working knowledge of Active Directory, Entra ID hybrid identity, and Microsoft 365 infrastructure services. Advanced knowledge of networking concepts: Layer 3 routing (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), Layer 2 switching, NAT, WAN protocols, wireless, and firewalls. Experience with enterprise telecommunications and voice solutions. Working knowledge of change management, monitoring, and IT General Controls. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal. Advanced reading and writing skills with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.

Preferred Skills:

ITIL certification; Cisco, VMware, or Microsoft infrastructure certifications; experience with private cloud or colocation hosting models; experience supporting infrastructure in regulated industrial, energy, or maritime environments; experience with acquisition technology integration or datacenter consolidation; and experience with storage, backup, and data protection platform administration are preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

Responsible for the supervision of direct reports, including systems engineers, network engineers, and system administrators. Responsibilities include hiring recommendations, performance management, scheduling and on-call coordination, and development planning.

Work Conditions:

Office based with up to 25% travel by land and air required. Travel to petroleum refinery, terminal, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, exposure to the risk of electrical shock. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements:
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, perceiving color differences, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping. Job conditions may require lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, and climbing up to 15ft.
