Vice President, Scientific Services

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President, Scientific Services based in the United States.

This is a senior scientific leadership opportunity supporting a major medical affairs account within the oncology space.
You will partner closely with client services and creative teams to deliver high-impact scientific communications, digital initiatives, and medical campaigns.
The role combines scientific expertise with strategic client leadership across multiple products and pipeline compounds.
You will lead and mentor a team of scientific writers while setting a high bar for quality, strategy, and execution.
As a trusted advisor, you will help clients and key experts navigate complex scientific and commercial challenges.
You will also contribute to business development by identifying opportunities to expand relationships, services, and client impact.
As part of the scientific leadership team, you will help shape broader initiatives, share expertise, and strengthen the organization’s culture and capabilities.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the scientific strategy and delivery for a large, high-volume medical affairs account, ensuring priorities remain aligned across teams, products, and projects.
  • Serve as a senior scientific and strategic advisor to clients, helping shape recommendations, communications, campaigns, and broader account strategy.
  • Oversee the development of high-quality scientific content and deliverables, providing ongoing editorial direction, strategic guidance, and quality assurance.
  • Partner with Client Services and Creative teams to develop compelling scientific communications, digital projects, and medical campaigns.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor scientific writers and other team members, supporting professional development, performance, and career progression.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, key experts, and internal stakeholders, confidently navigating complex scientific and commercial discussions.
  • Apply a strong understanding of oncology and pharmaceutical communications to address client challenges and identify creative, visually compelling solutions.
  • Support business development activities by identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships into new teams, products, and service offerings.
  • Contribute to the scientific leadership team by sharing expertise, leading cross-functional initiatives, and supporting organizational culture and operations.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of scientific accuracy, editorial quality, strategic thinking, and pharmaceutical industry compliance.
Requirements
  • Advanced doctoral-level degree such as a PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent scientific qualification.
  • 9+ years of professional experience within the medical communications industry.
  • Significant experience working in oncology, with experience in hematologic malignancies strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record leading large medical affairs or commercial accounts, ideally within a complex agency or medical communications environment.
  • Exceptional scientific writing and editorial skills, with experience developing medical and/or commercial deliverables.
  • Demonstrated people-management experience, including coaching, mentoring, team leadership, and operational oversight.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical industry standards, medical communications practices, and relevant compliance requirements.
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-building abilities, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders and key experts.
  • Strategic and commercially minded approach, with the ability to connect scientific expertise to client objectives and business opportunities.
  • Strong creative and visual problem-solving skills, particularly when developing communications and campaigns for complex scientific topics.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to align priorities and guide teams across a high-volume portfolio.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across scientific, client services, and creative functions while also operating independently as a senior leader.
