Job Description

Senior/Staff Network Infrastructure Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior/Staff Network Infrastructure Engineer based in United States.

This is a senior-level infrastructure role responsible for designing and operating the network foundation behind a rapidly scaling AI and generative media platform.
You will build connectivity across data centers, cloud environments, public infrastructure, and private compute clusters.
The role spans internet routing, private peering, overlay networking, DNS, IP address management, and advanced Linux networking.
You will work at both the architectural and systems level, from BGP announcements and traffic engineering to kernel-level performance optimization.
A strong focus is placed on automation, observability, reliability, security, and operational simplicity.
You will collaborate with internal teams and customers to translate complex connectivity and performance requirements into robust network designs.
This is an opportunity to have substantial technical ownership while working on infrastructure supporting demanding, high-performance AI workloads.

Accountabilities
  • Design, build, validate, and operate public and private network infrastructure across data centers, cloud environments, public platforms, and private compute clusters.
  • Automate network provisioning, configuration, validation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovery using AI and infrastructure automation tools.
  • Manage ASNs, public IP prefixes, private address space, IP allocation, registration, announcements, and lifecycle processes.
  • Design and operate BGP routing, including route policies, communities, filtering, traffic engineering, multipath, convergence, and failover.
  • Announce customer and organizational IP ranges from physical infrastructure and cloud providers, including Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP) integrations.
  • Establish and maintain private peering with customers, partners, data centers, internet exchanges, and cloud providers.
  • Build and operate private and overlay networks using technologies such as VXLAN, IPsec, WireGuard, and Tailscale.
  • Design and operate DNS networking patterns, including anycast DNS and mDNS.
  • Tune Linux networking systems for high throughput, low latency, and large connection volumes.
  • Build network observability and diagnostic capabilities using metrics, logs, flow data, active probes, packet captures, and other monitoring techniques.
  • Develop reusable networking tools, standards, documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal engineering teams to translate connectivity, security, isolation, and performance requirements into scalable network architectures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, operational efficiency, automation, and network performance across the infrastructure environment.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience building and operating production network infrastructure.
  • Strong expertise in Linux networking, including routing tables, policy routing, network namespaces, bonding, VLANs, bridges, firewalling, NAT, and conntrack.
  • Deep knowledge of BGP, including route selection, communities, filtering, convergence, multipath, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience managing ASNs, public IP space, BGP announcements, IPAM, RPKI/ROAs, and IRR records.
  • Experience designing private IPv4 and IPv6 address plans while preventing conflicts across customers, regions, and environments.
  • Production experience with VXLAN overlay networks.
  • Production experience with IPsec, WireGuard, or Tailscale.
  • Experience operating anycast DNS and mDNS.
  • Experience establishing private peering and integrating with cloud-provider networking and interconnect services.
  • Strong understanding of Linux network performance tuning, including congestion control, queue disciplines, socket buffers, MTU, NIC offloads, RSS/RPS/XPS, and IRQ affinity.
  • Strong packet-level troubleshooting skills using tools such as iproute2, tc, ethtool, tcpdump, Wireshark, and mtr.
  • Experience with Ansible or equivalent network configuration and infrastructure automation tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and customers while communicating complex networking concepts clearly.
  • Experience with EVPN as a VXLAN control plane is a plus.
  • Familiarity with FRRouting, BIRD, or similar software-routing platforms is desirable.
  • Experience with AWS Direct Connect, Google Cloud Interconnect, or Azure ExpressRoute is advantageous.
  • Experience with internet exchanges, cross-connects, route servers, or colocation networking is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DDoS detection, mitigation, scrubbing, or BGP-based traffic diversion is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with eBPF, XDP, or DPDK is desirable.
  • Experience with NetBox, Nautobot, Nornir, Kubernetes networking, service load balancing, or CNI technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with network hardware from vendors such as Arista, Juniper, or Cisco is beneficial.
  • Python or Go development experience is a plus.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual compensation of $180,000–$250,000.
  • Equity participation as part of the overall compensation package.
  • Fully remote working environment within the United States.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-performance infrastructure supporting advanced AI and generative media workloads.
  • Significant technical ownership across public and private networking architecture.
  • Exposure to complex networking challenges spanning data centers, cloud providers, internet infrastructure, and private compute environments.
  • Opportunity to use automation and AI to improve network provisioning, operations, observability, and recovery.
  • Collaborative engineering environment with the opportunity to influence infrastructure standards, tooling, and operational practices.
