Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Philanthropy Officer leads the organization’s efforts to scale its development program, with a particular focus on the major gift program and growing the donor base. This individual oversees the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of CHF’s portfolio of major donors and prospects, while building new pipelines for individual and corporate partnerships that advance the organization's mission and revenue goals. This position is accountable for significant revenue targets and serves as a primary external ambassador for the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Covenant House Florida reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following:
- In partnership with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer and the Board of Directors, leads the work of developing and executing the fundraising strategic plan. Co-lead Board Development Committee meetings.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development is executed in keeping with the organization's values, vision, and mission.
- Grow and scale a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors, including capital campaign donors.
- Work with the CEO and CDO to acquire, manage and steward a personal and shared portfolio of high-capacity individual and corporate donor relationships.
- Supervise a team of relationship managers who manage and steward a portfolio of donors.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities to deepen donor engagement across all fundraising channels to increase revenue..
- In partnership with CEO and CDO, leads the strategic planning and execution of the capital campaign, with full accountability for campaign outcomes, including supporting the development of infrastructure, engagement of volunteer leadership and cross-functional teams, and direct donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to meet and exceed fundraising goals
- Make public appearances and accept speaking engagements to share information about the mission with the community.
- Demonstrate the ability to personalize the Covenant House Florida mission to donors depending upon demographic variables and exercise appropriate judgment.
- Work with the Chief Development Officer to establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the efficacy of the major gifts and donor acquisition program.
- Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations, laws, and the code of ethics for fundraising professionals while demonstrating professional conduct at all times
- Attend fundraising seminars, donor meetings, receptions, and major fundraising events; travel regularly throughout Florida to visit key donors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Leadership or requested by fellow members of the Covenant House development community.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 10 years of experience in high-level nonprofit fundraising; 15 years preferred. Demonstrated success in major gifts, capital campaigns, and new donor acquisition. At least 5 years of management experience. Strong working knowledge of individual giving strategies, prospect research, and donor cultivation best practices.
SKILLS
Must be a self-starter, goal-oriented, and entrepreneurial with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong persuasion, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by concise, timely, and professional correspondence, both written and verbal. Ability to motivate and inspire donors around organizational mission.
TRANSPORTATION
Must have a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. This position requires regular travel throughout Florida to visit key donors.
SCHEDULE
Working flexible hours as required to meet donor and event needs, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
This position may supervise internal staff and external consultants as the major gifts program grows.
EQUIPMENT USED
Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Office Suite, and internet-based software. Experience with donor data software preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily conducted off-site at donor meetings, events, and community engagements. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to travel as needed for training or to fulfill job requirements.
