Description:

The Volunteerism Officer leads efforts to recruit, coordinate, and support the volunteers who help advance Habitat for Humanity of Durham’s mission. This position will work closely with the Development Team, the Construction Team, the Communications Team, the President and CEO, and other organizational leadership, and program staff. Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination

  • Recruit, screen, and onboard individual, group, and corporate volunteers for construction sites, office needs, and special events.
  • Schedule and coordinate volunteer shifts, orientations, and trainings, and maintain accurate volunteer records and hours in the volunteer database.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, ensuring a positive and well-organized experience from sign-up through service.

Volunteer Engagement and Community Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with faith communities, corporate partners, civic groups, and individual volunteers to grow a reliable and engaged volunteer base.
  • Plan and support volunteer appreciation efforts, recognition events, and ongoing volunteer communications.
  • Represent Habitat for Humanity of Durham professionally and positively when interacting with volunteers, partners, homeowners, and community members.
  • Be available to support occasional evening and weekend volunteer activities when required

Perform other duties reasonably related to the position and the needs of the organization.

This role is Tuesday through Saturday, with occasional nights and weekends. The current work schedule is 9 am to 5 pm on a hybrid schedule of 4 days in the office and one day Out of Office. Expectations on Hybrid days are the same as on in-office workdays.

Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, event coordination, customer service, or nonprofit programs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience building relationships with volunteers, community organizations, corporate partners, or civic groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using volunteer management systems, CRM databases, or similar software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and represent the organization professionally.
  • Ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, with occasional evening and weekend availability for volunteer events.
