Job Description
Position Description: Purpose
A Facilities Electrical Technician installs, maintains, and repairs the electrical systems and equipment within a commercial, industrial, or campus property. They ensure the building’s power distribution, lighting, and control systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant electrical codes.
Essential Functions*
· Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and scheduled maintenance on transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, emergency generators, and UPS systems.
· Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair electrical faults, malfunctioning equipment, and damaged wiring using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other testing devices.
· System Installation: Assemble, install, and wire new electrical panels, lighting fixtures, power outlets, and control systems.
· Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work adheres to the National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, and OSHA safety standards, including strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
· Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to accurately locate failures and execute repairs.
· Vendor Coordination: Assist or oversee external contractors during large facility upgrades or major equipment servicing.
· Documentation: Log maintenance activities, track inventory, and maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections.

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)
· Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes
· Assist outdoor contractors
· Assists in the planning of projects and follows budget requirements
· Works with little supervision
· Performs non-standardized assignments
· Coordinate and schedule activities with affected areas
· Organize and coordinate project activities
· Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Qualifications
· Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship, relevant associate's degree, or a valid Journeyman Electrician license is often required.
· Experience: 2 to 5+ years of hands-on commercial or industrial electrical maintenance experience.
· Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of high voltage, low voltage, and building automation/control systems.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy components, stand for extended periods, work in confined spaces or elevated heights, and distinguish wire colors.
· Basic knowledge of safe and proper tool and equipment use
· Proficient in the use of equipment related to knowledge areas
· Excellent communication skills
· Demonstrated leadership skills
· Ability to complete and pass all internal, position specific job and safety trainings required
Working conditions
· May be exposed to temperatures under 0 degrees and above 95 degrees
· May be exposed to inclement weather
· May be exposed to hazardous chemical, such as gas, oil, and paint
· Technicians regularly work in various settings, including utility rooms, office spaces, and outdoor environments. The job can require exposure to hazardous conditions, extreme temperatures, and loud noises, necessitating the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical requirements
· Ability to move objects up to 50 pounds
· Capable of positioning one’s self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions
· Ability to enter work times into a computer
