As our Technical Sourcing & Cost Engineer, you will work where engineering, manufacturing and supply chain meet, helping ensure that cost, manufacturability, supplier capability and scalability shape our products from the earliest stages of development.

This is not a conventional procurement role. You will be a technical and commercial sparring partner to our engineers, bringing informed challenge before designs are frozen. You will help answer the questions that determine whether a promising concept can become a competitive product: How should it be made? What will drive its cost? Which suppliers can deliver it? How must the manufacturing strategy change as production volumes grow?

You will help ensure that engineering decisions are informed by manufacturing reality, supplier capability and cost from the earliest stages of development.

Your recommendations will connect today’s development needs with the production architecture required for future deployment, helping GlassPoint develop products that are competitive, manufacturable and ready to scale.

Shape Cost & Manufacturability

• Partner with engineers throughout component and product development, providing practical manufacturing, sourcing and cost insight.
• Carry out high-level techno-economic, should-cost and design-to-cost analysis for alternative concepts, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Translate design decisions into their likely effects on component, subsystem and total system cost.
• Look beyond purchase price to consider tooling, assembly, logistics, installation, commissioning, reliability, maintainability and lifecycle economics.
• Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and value-engineering thinking to simplify designs, reduce part count and improve scalability.
• Identify where tolerances, specifications, specialist processes or limited supplier availability may create unnecessary cost or supply risk.

Develop Suppliers

• Find and develop capable manufacturers for prototypes, development parts and low-volume requirements.
• Work with the wider Supply Chain team to transition successful designs towards competitive, resilient and higher-volume suppliers.
• Maintain a current view of modern manufacturing technologies, automation and emerging supplier capabilities relevant to GlassPoint.

Build for Production Scale

• Compare credible volume scenarios and identify when prototype or low-volume methods should give way to dedicated tooling, automation, alternative materials or higher-throughput processes.
• Connect today’s development needs with the production architecture required for future deployment.

Who You Are

You are technically credible, commercially minded and comfortable challenging established approaches constructively.

You can make useful, transparent judgements when information is incomplete and designs are still evolving. You are curious about how things are made, why they cost what they do and how they could be improved.

You communicate complex manufacturing and economic trade-offs clearly to engineers, suppliers and leadership, and move comfortably between engineering detail, supplier capability and system-level economics.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Typically 5–10 years of relevant experience across engineering, manufacturing, technical sourcing, cost engineering, supplier development or a combination of these fields.
• A strong practical understanding of manufacturing processes and their cost drivers.
• Experience working directly with engineering teams during product or component development.
• Experience in conceptual costing, should-cost modelling, value engineering, design-to-cost or techno-economic analysis.
• Sound judgement about supplier capability, process limitations, tooling, quality, capacity and scale-up risk.
• Current knowledge of modern manufacturing technologies, industrialisation methods and automation.
• Experience sourcing prototypes or low-volume components and supporting their transition towards serial production is highly desirable.
• Experience working with international suppliers and cross-functional teams would be an advantage.
