About This Position

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly specialized Porsche 928 Mechanic / Restoration Technician with deep expertise in the Porsche 928 platform. This role focuses exclusively on the service, repair, and restoration of 928 models across all years (1978–1995).

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with the 928’s unique front-engine V8 layout, transaxle drivetrain, and complex electrical systems, and can deliver both driver-quality and concours-level work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain all variants of the Porsche 928 (early and late models)
  • Perform timing belt and water pump services (critical maintenance item)
  • Rebuild and service 928 V8 engines, including top-end and full rebuilds
  • Service transaxle systems, torque tubes, and driveline components
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical systems, including CE panels and wiring harnesses
  • Perform fuel system service (injectors, fuel lines, pumps) and cooling system restoration
  • Restore suspension, braking systems, and steering components to OEM or upgraded specs
  • Identify, source, and install OEM or high-quality aftermarket parts
  • Fabricate or refurbish hard-to-find components as needed
  • Document work thoroughly for client records and vehicle history

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working on classic or vintage European vehicles
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience specifically with Porsche 928 (highly preferred)
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Front-engine Porsche architecture
    • Timing belt interference engines
    • Bosch fuel injection systems (K-Jetronic, LH-Jetronic)
  • Strong diagnostic skills for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to read factory service manuals and wiring diagrams
  • High attention to detail and commitment to precision work
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in a Porsche-focused or European specialty shop
  • Familiarity with other classic Porsche models (911 air-cooled)
  • Experience with concours-level restorations or high-end collector vehicles
  • Fabrication, welding, or machining capabilities
  • Porsche factory training or certifications (a plus, not required)
