Shift Available:
Friday & Saturday 5:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Sunday 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Due to the nature of the services provided and the need to protect client privacy and safety, this position requires a female staff member as a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ), consistent with applicable federal and state laws.

Position Summary
The Recovery Support Specialist assigned to the HROT Outreach program will primarily work in the field, serving homeless individuals with addiction issues. The duties will focus on building rapport with homeless individuals and assisting in transporting those who are publicly intoxicated to the Houston Recovery Center. The Recovery Support Specialist in this project must understand the community’s culture and ethnicity and be able to respond positively to its challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
• Comply with HRC Work Culture Building Blocks and follow HRC Code of Conduct.
• Keep Client Care a top priority during client stay in the facility to include providing compassion, empathy and respect.
• Must be in self-directed recovery and willing to share experience as appropriate, if applicable to position.
• Effectively support client engagement and progress in recovery.
• Stay in compliance with documentation standards and ethical guidelines.
• Participate in ongoing training and supervision.
• Work closely with law enforcement and emergency medical agencies to safely transport intoxicated clients to the Houston Recovery Center.
• Perform wellness checks by contacting homeless individuals in areas covered under our contracts.
• Respond to community and law enforcement requests for HROT Outreach transportation services.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation, including wellness checks and HMIS updates, within 48 hours of client contact.
• Engage with community stakeholders, including law enforcement, business owners, and service providers, to provide information about the HROT Outreach program and enhance collaboration.
• Provide supportive services using a low-barrier, harm-reduction, and non-judgmental approach.
• Assist in maintaining and ensuring that HROT equipment, vehicles, and tools are functioning properly.
• Provide transportation services as needed, including outreach-related activities and safe transport of clients.
• Participate in a multidisciplinary outreach team with CFTH.
• Complete HMIS new user, Coordinated Entry, and follow-up fundamental training provided by the Lead Agency.
• Participate in workgroups, case conferencing, or population-specific meetings as scheduled by CFTH.
• Provide crisis intervention, including basic needs and supplies.
• Conduct initial screenings and problem-solving conversations.
• Offer referrals for emergency services, healthcare, mainstream benefits, employment, and shelter.
• Conduct housing assessments and case management.
• Explore alternatives to housing outside the homeless response system with clients.
• Assist with pre-navigation services, including obtaining Social Security cards, birth certificates, homeless verification documents, verification of disability, and proof of income.
• Communicate well oral and written/ Bilingual preferred, not required
• Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change and Mental Health Awareness
• Demonstrate ability to work with diverse communities along with extensive knowledge of community agencies and their services.
• Exercises mature judgment and maintain a regular attendance
• Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
• Ability to accept and follow directions that comply with organization guidelines
• Adapt to changing work requirements and flexibility of time.
• Perform related work as assigned
• Available to work HROT program shifts and attend program meetings

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
• High School Diploma or GED
• 46 Hours of Recovery Support Specialist Training, required
• Or Certified as Recovery Support Specialist with VIA Hope Texas Mental Health Resource with Texas Board of Addition Professionals
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Must be able to pass Background check
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Demands:
• Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer or engaging in client documentation
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday, including during community outreach or group facilitation
• Occasional reaching, bending, stopping or lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Work may occur in office, clinical, or community settings

Work Environment:
• Office environment with standard lighting and temperature
• Community environments including client homes, shelters, or partner agencies
• May involve exposure to individuals experiencing crisis or behavioral health challenges
• Regular interaction with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external providers
