EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time, 40Hrs/week
REPORTS TO: Vice President of People and Culture

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Benefits Eligible
LOCATION: Kansas City, MO
POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role in executing the Talent Acquisition and Onboarding pillar of the Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City People Strategy.
This role is responsible for managing the full-cycle recruiting coordination, pre-employment process, and new hire onboarding experience, ensuring that we attract, hire, and successfully integrate the right people into the right seats.
The HR Generalist partners closely with the Vice President of People & Culture and hiring managers to deliver a consistent, high-quality candidate and employee experience that supports a high-performing, mission-driven organization.
Pay is $21 - $24 per hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Talent Acquisition & Recruiting Coordination
- Support the full-cycle recruitment process including:
- Job postings, sourcing, and applicant tracking
- Resume screening and candidate communication
- Interview scheduling and coordination with hiring managers
- Partner with hiring managers to ensure a structured and consistent hiring process
- Attend community career fairs and coordinate hiring events, including ReStore job fairs
- Ensure a positive and professional candidate experience from application through offer
PRE-EMPLOYMENT & ONBOARDING
- Manage all pre-employment processes including:
- Background checks
- Drug screenings
- Offer letters and new hire documentation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all new hires prior to start date
- Coordinate and facilitate new hire orientation
- Develop and manage individual onboarding plans for each new hire
- Partner with managers to ensure successful onboarding and first 90-day experience
PEOPLE STRATEGY EXECUTION
- Support the implementation of the Habitat KC People Strategy, with a primary focus on:
- Talent Acquisition
- Onboarding & Orientation
- Employee Experience
- Help drive consistency, structure, and accountability in hiring and onboarding processes
HR OPERATIONS & COMPLIANCE SUPPORT
- Maintain accurate employee records within the HRIS
- Track and support completion of required compliance and safety training
- Ensure compliance with pre-employment and onboarding requirements
- Maintain knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices
EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE & SUPPORT
- Serve as a resource for employees by responding to HR-related questions and providing guidance on policies and procedures
- Deliver a high level of customer service to employees, candidates, and leaders
- Support a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Stay current on trends, best practices, and new technologies in recruiting and HR
- Identify opportunities to improve recruiting, onboarding, and candidate experience
- Support process improvements aligned with HR systems and infrastructure initiatives

OTHER DUTIES
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the People & Culture function
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3 years of HR experience, with a focus on recruiting or onboarding preferred
- Experience working with HRIS systems
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of employment laws and compliance requirements
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Speak and hear in order to communicate with others.
- Work at a desk or computer for extended periods of time.
- Move around the office, event, or construction sites.
- Apply physical dexterity, able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to independently operate a motor vehicle.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Individual may be subject to intermittent moderate noise levels. Individual needs to be able to use their fingers to type.
