Description: Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) – Full Time

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join our rehabilitation team. Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant provides physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with an established plan of care (POC) and the Texas Physical Therapy Practice Act. The PTA works with patients across inpatient, outpatient, and Swing Bed settings to support rehabilitation, restore functional abilities, and promote safe mobility.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care & Treatment

  • Administer physical therapy interventions as outlined in the Physical Therapist’s plan of care.
  • Prepare patients for treatment, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Apply therapeutic exercises, physical modalities, and ambulation techniques while monitoring patient response.
  • Assist with patient transfers and transport to and from therapy sessions as needed.
  • Communicate patient progress, responses, and concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist.

Documentation & Education

  • Accurately document treatments, progress notes, and charges in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Report treatment effectiveness and patient progress through daily notes.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on exercises, treatment plans, and progress.
  • Maintain appointment schedules and therapy-related records.
  • Adhere to established plans of care.

Equipment, Safety & Team Collaboration

  • Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance, and safe use of therapy equipment.
  • Monitor therapy supply levels and assist with ordering as needed.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA requirements at all times.
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapists and other healthcare providers to coordinate care.
  • Assist with supervision and training of PTA students and support staff, as applicable.

Professional Conduct

  • Maintain a professional, positive demeanor with patients, families, and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and performance improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational operations.
Requirements: Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current Texas Physical Therapy Assistant license.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Experience & Skills

  • One year of experience as a licensed PTA preferred.
  • Experience in inpatient, outpatient, or Swing Bed settings preferred.
  • Proficiency in therapeutic exercises, physical modalities, and mobility training.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift or assist patients (50 lbs. or more).
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers and prolonged physical activity.
  • Work in fast-paced clinical environments with varying noise levels.
  • Exposure to clinical settings with potential biohazards; safety protocols required.
