About This Position

HR Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource activities for Nexkemia including but not limited to hiring and interviewing staff, benefits administration, employee relations, new hire onboarding, employee training, and enforcing corporate and business unit policies and practices.

Directly reports to: HR Manager
Dotted line reporting to: General Manager


Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions following established recruiting process; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Process all new hire employment related documents in accordance with established process and provincial legal requirements.
  • Conducts and/or facilitates new hire onboarding for both corporate and business unit level.
  • Responsible for the administration of all employee benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long-term disability, and retirement plan.
  • Performs tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Processes new hire, employee changes, terminations and other employee actions in the corporate Human Resource Information System (HRIS) according to established HR process. Coordinates with HR Manager for bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices to include but not limited to:
    • Perform and maintain the Quebec equity program for Nexkemia.
    • Compliance with Bill 96.
  • Ensures all corporate and business unit policies and procedures are followed. Refers to Employee Handbooks, formal HR procedures and HR department processes and guidance documents prior to providing direction or taking action.
  • Additionally, supports initiatives focused on team building and strengthening workplace culture.
  • Communicates priorities, urgent items, status of HR activity to the HR Manager and affected or involved HR department staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • 5 + years of HR Generalist experience. Has practiced the majority of HR discipline areas. Recruiting experience is required.
  • Bilingual in French and English. A high level of English proficiency is required, as approximately 50% of the workday involves speaking and writing in English through local and global communications with colleagues worldwide.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
