About This Position

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 9-month position, tenure-track available with Doctorate degree

PRIMARY DUTY: This position offers a dynamic opportunity to teach foods and nutrition courses in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats at the undergraduate and graduate level. Specific teaching assignments will be determined based on the expertise of the candidate, but typically include courses such as Nutrition and Diet Behavior, Community Nutrition, Lifespan Nutrition, Food Science, Trends and Issues in Nutrition (grad), or Global Nutrition (grad). The position also includes coordination and student advisement for Northwest’s online MS in Nutrition program, participation in other service and professional development activities, and collaboration with faculty to ensure the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) maintains an exceptional level of quality and adheres to ACEND accreditation requirements. Successful completion of research or other forms of professional scholarship is required as well.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach a 4/4 load with release time granted at designated enrollment/advisement levels.
  2. Engage in scholarly activity in a manner consistent with expectations described in faculty handbook.
  3. Engage in service activities in a manner consistent with expectations described in the faculty handbook.
  4. Support ACEND standards and associated accreditation requirements.
  5. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Doctorate in nutrition or a closely related field; At least 18 graduate credits in nutrition or food sciences at the graduate level (Master’s or Doctorate); ABD candidates will be considered

Experience: Successful teaching experience at the college level

Skills: Ability to achieve successful classroom management and instruction, curriculum development, student advisement, scholarship production, and successful application of Learning Management Systems and other education-related technologies


WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical classroom and office conditions with weekly office hours and regular meeting attendance required

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Faculty are issued a personal laptop. Typical teaching tools in a classroom environment. Classrooms are technology enhanced with document stations, video equipment, Canvas LMS and other academic tools and technologies.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typical office environment; Ability to complete teaching, scholarship, service, and professional development functions

SCHOOL: The School of Health Science and Wellness is a multidisciplinary academic unit that offers Bachelor’s Degrees in Foods and Nutrition, Nursing, Psychology, Human Services, Sociology Applied Health Sciences, Public Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Therapeutic Recreation, as well as Master’s degrees in School Counseling, Recreation, P.E, and Applied Health and Sport Sciences. The Foods and Nutrition faculty support a bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition with an RD track, a DI post graduate program, and a master’s degree in Nutrition. The position primarily supports the bachelor’s and master’s programs, but also provides support for the DI program and the School of Health Science and Wellness in general. The School is committed to its mission: “Lifespan Health and Active Living”, and to collaboration across departments and disciplines university-wide to provide the best experience for its student.
