BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Manager of Hospital Billing is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the healthcare organization’s revenue cycle operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant billing, collections, and reimbursement processes. This position provides leadership to Hospital Billing Department with a focus on optimizing cash flow, reducing denials, and enhancing patient financial experience.

  • Director, Revenue Cycle and Patient Access

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Minimum Education: High School/GED Required

Degree: Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

License/Certification Required: N/A

Minimum Work Experience: Three years of revenue cycle experience including significant experience within the health insurance accounts receivable.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, payer contracts, and compliance regulations.
  • Strong analytical and financial management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage change, motivate staff, and build cross-functional relationships.
  • Commitment to patient-centered service and continuous process improvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for department oversight, directing and supervising activities of the team and systems involved in hospital billing; including ensuring timely claims submission, denial management, appeals, accounts receivable follow up, and accurate payment posting.
  • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly work priorities for assigned supervisors and staff. Makes recommendations regarding disposition of accounts. Reviews of billing reports, collections, and other information to ensure staff production and quality assurance metrics are being met. Identifies, communicates, and facilitates resolution of problems as necessary.
  • Analyzes trends impacting payer reimbursement to inform decision making; presents applicable issues to payer relations representatives, hospital’s leadership and hospital’s managed care department to resolve issues.
  • Maintains billing system and edits to assure compliance with billing and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with clinical and administrative teams to resolve billing issues and improve workflow.
  • Succession Planning -- Helps develop skill redundancies among team members.
  • Performs people management responsibilities for employees which may include but are not limited to: employee engagement, recruitment, performance management and development.
  • Ability to accept any other assignment that may be requested.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
  • Works as efficiently as possible to ensure best use of time in account resolution

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
