Reports to the Director. Assists in organizing and managing the cleanliness of the organization. Acts as a resource for issues related to the internal cleanliness of the organization.

Plans, coordinates and supervises the Environmental Services staff and the cleanliness of the organization by:
- Assisting with interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, scheduling, evaluating and, when necessary, disciplining and authoritatively recommending discharge of associates.
- Scheduling associates, on a daily basis, to achieve the highest levels of productivity and efficiency related to customer service.
- Assisting with investigations and resolving complaints from patients, visitors, staff members and others; also consulting on problems which need future consideration.
- Maintaining the work environment in a safe, clean and orderly manner and collaborating with the appropriate departments for repairs, cleaning and other needs.
- Interpreting, enforcing and supporting Hospital policies, the terms and conditions of the Union agreement (if applicable), program changes and national performance standards.
- Orienting and training new associates to perform duties following proper procedures.
- Making continuous rounds of the patient care and public work areas.
- Carrying the telephone, computer, tablet, etc. and responding to service requests. Also, prioritizing requests for Environmental Associates.
- Communicating potential issues or needs (for example, scheduling and equipment problems) to the Director/Manager.
- Monitoring patient throughput via discharge application, ensuring that throughput metrics are being achieved by prompt and effective cleaning of discharge room.
- Performs pest control functions and documents pest control calls.
- Coordinates with associates to coordinate project work.
- Makes any adjustments during the shift as needed to ensure that all projects and daily duties are completed by walking all areas.
- Conducts pre-planning for the next 24 hours of operations, looking ahead at census and schedules to schedule staff accordingly.
- Complete payroll responsibilities.
- Maintains a high level of customer service at all times.
Assists with quality improvement and quality control standards:
- Evaluating services provided with clinical staff, Directors and Managers on a monthly basis.
- Participating in the development of quality indicators and establishing measurable action plans achieve targeted goals.
- Regularly inspect equipment for safety and repair needs and call vendors to repair them as needed.
- Staying current with industry best practices.
- Preparing periodic reports related to statistics, productivity and quality measurements.
- Performing appropriate committee functions, as assigned including the leadership and/or support to one or more process improvement efforts.
- Has a comprehensive understanding of all department policies and strategic goals.
- Takes a lead approach to ensure that the highest quality standards are met.
- Ensuring the facility has appropriate supplies available including ordering and restocking supplies and equipment.
- Maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of supply, equipment and storage areas and reporting broken equipment.
- Performing quality assurance inspections in the patient care and public areas on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Conducts the expected amount of patient interviews in order to monitor and improve patient satisfaction.
- Completes expected amount of discharge room, high touch monitoring, occupied room inspection, whole unit inspections.
- Completes all expected stay interviews with associates.
- Make sure all logs are maintained and filed appropriately (some examples include Curtain Change, Cleaning Checklists, Floorcare Projects, Soiled Utility Room monitoring, Terminal Cleaning Logs).
- Keeps director well informed of all training, meetings, and discipline and counseling sessions.
- Ensure associates have the equipment and PPE needed to perform their jobs at a higher level.
- Evaluates the performance of all Environmental Services Associates and makes appropriate recommendations to the Director of Environmental Services.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
- Attends Beacon Academy or other related education to keep up with leadership development.
- Self identifies areas of growth and seeks out appropriate development accordingly.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school; Associate's Degree is preferred.
- Previous leadership and/or hospital Environmental Services experience is preferred.
- Certification is required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Working Conditions
- Works in a patient care environment and also non-patient care areas.
- May require physical exertion, time demands and possible exposure to chemical hazards, noise, dust, fumes and climate conditions of extreme heat or cold.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. standing/walking for prolonged periods of time, lift, push) to perform the essential functions of the position.
