About the Role:
The Social Services Assistant plays a vital role in supporting social workers and other professionals in delivering essential services to individuals and families in need. This position focuses on assisting clients by providing information, coordinating resources, and facilitating access to community programs that promote well-being and self-sufficiency. The assistant will engage directly with clients to gather necessary information, maintain accurate records, and help monitor client progress under supervision. By acting as a liaison between clients and service providers, the Social Services Assistant ensures that clients receive timely and appropriate support. Ultimately, this role contributes to improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations through compassionate and efficient service delivery.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least a year of experience working in a social services or community support environment.
- Basic knowledge of social service programs and community resources.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field.
- Experience with case management software and data entry.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
- Training in crisis intervention or conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal social service regulations and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients in completing applications for social services and benefits, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected and accurate.
- Provide information and referrals to community resources such as housing, healthcare, employment, and counseling services.
- Maintain detailed and confidential case records, documenting client interactions, services provided, and follow-up actions.
- Support social workers by scheduling appointments, coordinating transportation, and facilitating communication between clients and service providers.
- Monitor client progress and report any changes or concerns to supervising social workers to ensure appropriate interventions.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed about program updates and best practices.
- Assist in outreach efforts to identify and engage individuals who may benefit from social services.
