Pay Range: $21.23 - $26.60 per hour

Job Overview:

The Emergency Department Patient Access Representative is responsible for accurately registering patients who present to the Emergency Department.

This role ensures timely, courteous, and efficient service while maintaining compliance with hospital, regulatory, and payer requirements.

The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations,

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year of registration, patient access, or healthcare clerical experience

Preferred:

  • Associate degree
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification
  • Proficiency in Epic or comparable EMR system

Scheduling:

  • Part Time
  • Day
  • Rotating weekends and holidays

Essential Functions:

  • Completes timely and accurate registration of all ED patients, including demographic, insurance, and guarantor information
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits at time of service
  • Obtains appropriate signatures for consent, HIPAA, and financial documents
  • Collects co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances when appropriate
  • Greets patients, families, and visitors in a professional, compassionate manner
  • Provides clear explanations regarding registration, financial responsibility, and hospital policies
  • Responds promptly to patient inquiries and escalate concerns when necessary
  • Ensures compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and hospital policies
  • Identified and resolves registration errors to prevent delays in billing and patient care
  • Works closely with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow in the ED
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff regarding patient status
  • Escalates registration or financial clearance issues to leadership as needed
